HIV Postive and have HPV
« on: January 22, 2012, 05:03:08 pm »
I was wondering if anyone else is dealing with having HPV along with the HIV, my doctor says that I have like 14 different types but none of them are the kind that causes cancer, but this is from my old doctor. My new ID doctor doesn't seem to worried about it at this time either. I was just wondering if anyone else is dealing with both?

There have been a number of posts about this. If you query hpv In the search box to the left you will get a number of results. It is very common in our community. Have a good day.

D, I know you mean well, but you should not be posting in the Women's forum. I realise you probably got here from the unread page, but please try to notice where the thread resides before you post. Thank you for your cooperation.

Hi badbaby.

It is very important for positive women to have regular PAP smears - once a year is best. Some doctors also recommend the occasional colposcopy (where they have a close look at your cervix with a magnifying scope) regardless of whether or not your smears are normal.

Provided you have regular PAPs, don't worry too much about the HPV but don't ignore it either.

You may want to talk with your doctor about making sure you are being screened regularly and if he knows any GYNs who are hiv experienced. Don't let him fobb you off either - press him on the issue if you don't feel he's giving this matter enough importance.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

I had a regular pap but was also told i have hpv and my doctor knows and he said that we will take care of it. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same thing going on or had at one time. Thanks for your help I do feel better about it all now.

I was told I had hpv a long long time before I became positive - I even had to have the loop diathermy (where cells were removed from my cervix) on one occasion and since that I had to have yearly tests (and was told it would be for 10 years minimum)  Since becoming poz I have smear tests every year anyway and the last two have identified NO hpv.  All very strange but apparently your body can sort it out itself?!  Obviously I still have to continue with the yearly tests though.

Thought that might help calm your nerves a little :-)
