Vasky, even people with hiv get flu. It's nothing to worry about as long as his numbers are half-way decent.

But of course, nobody wants to get the flu, whether or not they've got hiv. Regular hand-washing is your best line of defence, along with not rubbing your eyes or sticking your fingers into your mouth. This is how most flu is spread - by getting some of the flu germs on your hands then transfering them to your body - usually by touching your face.

If it's available in your area, I strongly recommend he gets a flu vaccination. I do every year and so do many other positive people. It needs to be the shot, not the nasal spray one. We're not supposed to take that one. The shots are fine, though.

Don't panic, just both of you keep washing your hands regularly, especially when you've been out in public. When there's a bad outbreak where I live, I carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer with me and use it fairly often. You don't need water, you just squirt some on and rub it in. Great stuff, and it's available in most places where you can buy over-the-counter remedies.

Good luck staying flu-free,

Ann

Vasky, you're very much welcome. Please don't forget about the hand washing and try to find some hand sanitizer. That really is your best defence against the flu.

Vasky,

Also see this : ( And, as Ann suggested, tell your boyfriend to keep his hands washed ! )

I had the flu shot back in ( I think October) but still managed to get the flu ( at least mildly back in January ) It was still rough though.

Thanks so much, precisely we live in Mexico City and i work in a school. so yesterday we stayed home most of the day and avoided crowds. and truthfully for Mexican authorities to cancel schools and do all the fuss they did on Thursday night it usually means things are a lot worse than they are letting us know.
have a good day,

The US CDC has a fact sheet on ways to try to avoid getting regular flu.  In addition to avoiding crowds and good hand washing they also suggest:
- Try not to touch your face and eyes with your hands (unless you have washed them )
- Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food
