Please note that one the ten myths debunked in this video is one that has currency on this site, viz. "you can't contract HIV through oral sex". The MD delivering this instructional video plainly states that there are documented cases of oral transmission of HIV. This is no news of course, in particular to anyone who reads prevention material issued by Western European Ministries of Health, but certainly needs retelling on aidsmeds

This doesn't seem to contradict the info I've seen on this site about the theoretical risk of oral sex (and the few documented cases).

my problem with this video is it dumbs down scientific truth to the point of being misleading or even untrue

she says that oral sex is somewhat less risky
according to what i have ready it is 10,000 to 100,000 times less risky than passive anal

she makes it seem that a st8t couple if one person is poz then they can never have unsafe sex or the other will get infected, this is silly because there are studies of 200 st8t couples who were serio different and they all were undetectable and they all had unsafe normal sex and they all conceived healthy children

in fact one young man who was very close to death with hiv a few years ago here in my city just had a child with his negative female partner and the child was neg. and they had sex

over all my impression of this video is it is a scare tactic to make people who are poz feel like they can never have sex again

she even says

if an hiv positive person chooses to have sex

as if that is a lesser choice than being chaste

why did she not say

when an hiv positive person has sex they should practice safe sex

i never liked this word safer sex

i know it is politically correct

but when it started to be used it makes it seem like no one has any idea what the % risk is

the risks are spelled out as a number very well online

Estimated per act risk for acquisition
of HIV-1 by exposure route

Exposure Route    Estimated infections
per 10,000 exposures
to an infected source

Blood Transfusion    9,000
Childbirth    2,500 -- this is probably much less now with newer knowledge...
Needle-sharing injection drug use    67
Receptive anal intercourse*    50
Percutaneous needle stick    30
Receptive penile-vaginal intercourse*    10
Insertive anal intercourse*    6.5
Insertive penile-vaginal intercourse*    5
Receptive fellatio*    1
Insertive fellatio*    0.5
* assuming no condom use

of course this would also be reduced by viral load so that if someone is undetectable then they are a million times less likely to transmit than someone who is spiking at one million copies

Once again Bimazek, Professor Emeritus of Google U, gets it spectacularly wrong.

The numbers Bim provides here are in fact utter nonsense. There is no ethical way to test these things in a conclusive manner. They're drawn from the sort of statistical fantasy that Bimazek uses to avoid dealing with the reality of his own infection.

As usual, people reading this thread should disregard his comments as gibberish.
