Eviplera
« on: July 06, 2013, 04:21:42 am »
hi everyone,

I was on atripla for 3 months but the side effects was hard to cope with. they wasn't bad, I would just get a rush of heat and sort of feel woozy, they caused alot of panic attacks as I laid down to sleep, I could sleep easily just if get woke up with these panic attacks, and it was awful, last week they changed me to eviplera, but now there isn't any panic attacks, just now I'm awake more than ever, I am extremely tired but I am awake, it's like my body is physically exhausted but my brain is totally active, it's getting soo frustrating first the panic attacks on atripla was causing sleeping issues then I now can't sleep at all, I don't kno weather it's fear I will get another panic attack I haven't slept right since I had 17 panic attacks in my sleep, my doctor asked me to monitor my panic attacks and that night was the worst, I have also noticed my stomach is swelling out and my breathing isn't too good on these, I mean my levels are great apparently I'm at 471 cd4 count, and no virus detected, my bones are always sore and I feel extremely weak, all I want is a good sleep, but I ain't having any luck :( I was wondering if anyone has had the same thing, if it goes away or if u think I need to change meds again, it's proving to be difficult these days, it's been 4 months since I started taking meds, if there's any advice u can give me I'd be very grateful,

thanks

Hi there,

I see only one way out: ask your doctor to change meds ! Depending on if you have resistances or not there maybe several alternatives :-)

Keep the faith.

Cheers

hi,

yeah I am alegeable for every tablet out there as they tested that out, so I have all the choices, I didn't want to change because my levels went up and they was working, just these complicated issues arise and it's important to everyone to be able to have a sustainable life and be able to hit the pillow at night and just sleep away and wake up feeling refreshed and I haven't had that in months, but thank for your advice :) I'm greatful, I will see a doc a.s.a.p

I fully agree with you (I went thru similar experience) and since you have the choice do not hesitate.

Take care.

Hi Jboy, welcome to the forums.

You should be aware that Eviplera contains rilpivirine, which is in the same class as Sustiva (NNRTI). Sustiva is the component of Atripla that causes the side-effects you were experiencing.

Rilpivirine (brand name Edurant) can cause the following side-effects:

Edurant can cause depression or mood changes. Be sure to contact your health care provider immediately if you are feeling said or hopeless, feeling anxious or restless, or have thoughts of hurting yourself (suicide) or have tried to hurt yourself.

Common side effects of Edurant include trouble sleeping (insomnia), headache and rash.
source

It's quite possible that the rilpivirine is what's causing your on-going problems. You should definitely talk to your doctor about it.

If you want to stay with a once-a-day combo, I can recommend Prezista + Norvir + Truvada. It's either three or four pills (depending on whether your pharmacy stocks Prezista in the 400mg formulation or the 800mg formulation), but they're taken all at once, once a day. This combo is one of the most side-effect free combos currently available.

You can read about the various meds in the Drug Information pages found elsewhere on this website.

As you're new to hiv, you might also want to have a read through the Lessons as well. Please feel free to come back into the forums to ask any questions that may arise while you read. That's what we're here for! :)

JBoy;

I am on Eviplera (Complera here in the US) too and have noticed that the side effects are worse when I take my med with less of a meal, and within a few hours of taking the meds.  I take mine at lunch, and I try to make lunch my primary meal of the day.

I hope it gets better for you, or you are able to switch,

I also made the switch from Atripla to Eviplera (complera) 6 months ago and I am so glad. Aside from the calorie requirement (i make it about 350-400 calories) it is a really side effect friendly. I used to take my Atripla in the morning and spent about 6 hrs walking around the office suffering from extreme dizzyness, fatigue and hot flushes.

The calorie requirement with Eviplera isn't a big issue once you get used to food portions etc. It's easy. But so far no side effects from it.

I would encourage anyone that is suffering from sides on Atripla, to consider this as a great alternative. It changed my life.
