Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

hi all,
I did one stupid thing when travelling to Phuket back in Apr 2010. I had unprotected oral and protected vaginal sex with a Thai girl I met on the beach. She did not act like a hooker as she told me that she worked as a cleaning lady in the hotel nearby and told me something about her family too.
During the oral sex, I had cummed in her mouth but I immediately pulled out. Because I did finger her in the beginning, the vaginal secretions may be in contact with my penis head which had a small abrasion on it because of days of walking/ swimming. I cleaned up a bit afterwards and put on the condom to have vaginal sex.
After a few days, I felt a bit of discomfort in my penis and went for a test for STDs. I was diagnosed with chlamydia trachomatis. I was completely freaked out as it was the first time for me to catch a STD. I was treated with antibiotics and it was cleared up within a month. I started to look up in the internet for information what could be correlated for STD and I noted that I may be at risk for HIV.
I went for clinics in my region and got tested using SD Bioline HIV rapid test:
10 weeks post exposuse: -ve
12 weeks/ 86 days  post exposure: -ve
After the 12 weeks test, I have put the HIV thing behind me for a few months and have no sex encounter since that event until I have some problems with my stomach.
I have loose stools and abdominal pain from time to time for a month and so I saw doctor and after doing the endoscopy, the doctor said I had bile reflux causing the gastritis, and thus dyspepsia.
So my question is: 1. is my symptom related to HIV? 2. is my 86th day rapid test conclusive? I am so worried about getting HIV. Could Andy please help me out with my situation? Thanks for all your help!!

Whatever is going on with you symptomatically has nothing to do with HIV. You used a condom for intercourse which is exactly what you are supposed to do to protect yourself. They provide very effective protection.

As for receiving oral, it is absolutely not a risk for HIV transmission, no matter what details you throw into the mix.

Your 12 week result only confirmed your negative status because you were never at risk.

You are HIV negative. Period. End of story.

If you continue to have troublesome symptoms you need to discuss them with your doctor. They have nothing to do with HIV. We do advise anyone who is sexually active to at least annually have a full STD panel done as other STDs are easier to acquire than HIV.

thanks andy for your reply. I am a bit relived after reading your comments.
I have some further questions regarding HIV.
1. I have taken a couple doses of azithromycin for chlamydia. Would it affect the accuracy of my hiv rapid test?
2. I guess my infection of chlamydia is because my penis head (without protection and a bit of abrasion) was in touch with the vaginal secretion right after the oral sex. Would you consider such contact as an exposure to HIV?
I hope I can put all those worries behind me...thanks so much for you help!!

Taking that antibiotic would not affect the accuracy of your test result. Nor would your having chamydia.

You didn't have a risk as you have been told. And in any case you have reliably tested negative.

You need to let go this unwarranted concern and get on with your life. HIV is not your problem. Period.
