All clear on the southern front
« on: March 19, 2008, 10:58:57 pm »
or I should say the Southern REAR.   I finally got up my nerve and made an appointment with a colon-rectal m.d.   My last HPV removal procedure was in 2001 !  So I was WAY overdue....

This time, I caught a lucky break....all clear, nothing notable.  Isn't it great when a doctor tells you "everything looks fine, there's nothing to worry about" ?  I guess those are just such blessed words to me, because I've gotten bad news so many times before.

There's somthing very humbling about being on your knees on that exam table / forklift....this guy was very good though, didn't hurt me at all.   With my luck, I'll be on my knees in church on Easter, and get tickled thinking about it...I have a bad habit of getting tickled at the most inopportune times, and my niece always just plays right into it, so she'll be there to egg me on.   They'll wonder what in the world this fool is grinning about, like a mule eating briars..... ;D

Hey Alan,

That's great news! It is a real blessing when you have a doctor say all's well.

I am very glad the visit turned out as it did.

HUGS,

Dear Alan, I'm so glad your visit went so well, despite having to get in that uncomfortable position.  I suppose it was worth it, hearing that all was o.k.   I'm really happy for you sweetie.

Betty

There's somthing very humbling about being on your knees on that exam table / forklift....this guy was very good though, didn't hurt me at all./quote]

Hey, I went for my first exam and this Hispanic girl named Isabell  placed a sheet of paper in front of me titled 'Anal Cytology Test'. She was going to need me to grab the table, and pull down my britches and assume a position. She was then going to take a long cotton swab and 'swab' my anus, and then put the swab in a jar and take it to the lab and find out if I had cancer of the anus. "Do you mind if I do that?" she asked. 0.0 ...Well, I gave her permission as I certainly wanted to know if I had cancer of the butt and assumed the position.
On my next visit, Isabell greeted me and gave me the results of my Anal Cytology exam..it was negative. BUT, she wanted to do it again, to make sure, so I assumed the 'postition' again and got another butt swab. I then asked if this was going to be a constant thing with her on our 'dates' as I would need to make sure I wore clean undies on my visits, and might need to give myself a quick splash of cologne... ;D

Congrats, Alan.  Like you I've been procrastinating with this.  My last dysplasia HPV laser removal was in 2004, and I've dropped the since moving to Philadelphia.  I've gotten a referral for a doctor though, but he's way out in Wyndmoor, which involves taking the SEPTA commuter line and it's an area that I'm not familiar with.  Plus since I only have Medicare I need to negotiate with him and see if he'll take that payment on assignment or if I need to budget extra money.  *sigh*

I don't worry about the actual procedure though, since I've been up on that examination table 3 or 4 times already... know the routine.  All that's needed is a timely prep with some Xanax.

Take the plunge honey.....we have to keep ourselves up!

I found a doctor that accepted Medicare; I may have some co-pays, but I'll deal with that later....I did have to go outside of my hiv clinic though; they seem to think HPV is no big deal, and would probably have never got around to recommending me to a colo-rectal guy.....the one they use is a butcher anyway, so it's just as well.

Hope you make that appointment soon!

hugs,
Alan

Congrats Alan... My GP is gay and also a long time friend of mine . Once he had to do a rectal exam on me since we are friends this was a little awkward , useally we are just chattering away this day you could hear a pin drop .As he got started he kinda of muttered under his " um don't let me hurt you " I silently waited until he was done and removing the glove and quietly said " OK doc let me know when you are going to start " it broke the tension and he laughed till he cried .
