Delayed side effects? T&I
« on: October 21, 2011, 05:33:42 pm »
I started Truvada and Isentress 14 days ago and aside from some nausea on day 1&2, all smooth sailing. The last 2 days, I have felt really tired, some night sweats and mildly upset stomach.
These days I am apt to blame everything on meds or HIV itself.
Do these effects seem typical? I thought the more time that passed, the less chance of side effects.
I also ponder if the physical symptoms are a good sign indicative of the meds doing their work and knocking out the virus...

Yes, possible, but it's autumn, cold/flu/change of season etc...give it a while then decide

Cojo- In 14 days the meds are really getting into your system and the healing has started. The first few months I avoided dairy or any foods that could cause bloating or gas. The Truvada is know to cause gas/stomach discomfort but it went away and around the second month (everyone is different) so I starting eating what I wanted.
My big deal was finally getting rid of a sinus infection that I had learned to live with for many years. This was my sign that my meds were working.
And as that cute newt said autumn bring all kinds of bugs and allergies.
Peace,
Billy

Thx Newt and Billy; you guys have really helped me turn the panic button down. Billy, the sharing of your own experience in several posts have been really valuable to me as I try to navigate these new waters.
I am trying to stay focussed on that the fact that right about now, the meds should be beating the sh&^t out of the bugs and my soldiers, will win.
Peace.

Cojo- I think that most people are a little scared and panic when they start meds. I sure did but between this site and The Body I found out enough information to calm my fears and embrace my meds. The good has far outweighed any negatives that have occurred.
They are now such a routine part of my life that I automatically pick up my weekly pill dispenser without thinking about it.
Peace and drink that plenty of water,
Billy

Only a few remaining mysteries to bring up with my Doc tomorrow...

I have been having some night sweats. Not a total drench the bed type, but sweat on back of neck, forhead, around joints and chest. It happens about every third or fourth night. I have no fever so I have no idea what it is.
I have also noticed some ringing in the ears. It is obviously when I am in a quiet space and usually first thing in the morning.
Lastly, forgetfulness or spaciness. I am usually pretty sharp and do lots of public speaking. I have noticed that I am losing train of thought easier and have forgotten the ending to some of my own stories! On a humorous note, the other day I got fully dressed, including tie and shoes and did a final glance in the mirror...i forgot to put pants on!! I imagine that my catastrophic thinking about pointing towards dementia or brain impairment is a little premature.

Yer well I set off to work in shirt, jacket, tie and trackies on Monday...

On a serious note, these symptoms are all worth mentioning to your doc. The first few weeks of HIV treatment really changes ythe balance in your body, and it needs time to adjust and recover, and then again it could be side effects.  Your will know which if things pass.

Hey cojo,

Glad you're feeling normal again :-)

I started on my meds on 30th Sept so only a week or so before you, your numbers were roughly similar to mine too!

You got your 4 week results yet?

Hope all is well,

Andy

Hi Andy

I had the labs drawn a few days ago and see my doc end of month for results. I am in a strange, yet exciting space...the news could go anyway although science would say for the better. My Doc says to expect a dip in the CD4 count as it has a sluggish recovery and a drop in VL. I was trying to figure out the log formula and if I have it right, a full log drop woulds bring me down to 600 (it was 60,000). I don't know if that is way to over optimistic, but we'll see. I do know that physically, i feel much better!

Cojo- Good to see that you are still feeling OK. As you see from my numbers I also took a slight dip in CD4 after starting but my % has kept stable or increased. Also you will also see that I became UD by my second set of labs. I had a lower VL than you when starting meds but you are 10 years younger than me which is a plus for you!
Peace,
Billy
