Hi all, so my story is basically I am a Man that has been dating my girlfriend and things got very serious fast, fell in love etc. We had unprotected sexual intercourse and about a week later i started getting the chills. The next week I was having a lot of trouble swallowing and went to the hospital, they found out I had a type of esophagitis/esophegeal herpes. The doctors said this is very rare and usually occurs in people with very weak immune systems sometimes people with aids/hiv or cancer patients undergoing chemo etc. The thing is I have been fairly healthy my whole life and before I met this girl was always tested hiv negative during doctors physicals. She recently opened up telling me she had sort of a "wild" past so I'm getting very worried! Is it possible to contract hiv and get esophegeal herpes within two weeks of sexual intercourse? I did perform oral on her a month before but we only were having sexual intercourse for about two weeks when this happened.
A month or two leading up to this I was under EXTREME stress from other life factors, not eating/sleeping/drinking alcohol...is it possible I could have weakened my immune system so much I could have ran my body down and thats why I got the esophogitis? Or could this also mean that I weakened my immune system through stress and enabled my body to possibly catch something from someone and the possibility they were maybe acute or high load of hiv? Obviously this is all hypothetical and maybe I am worrying myself. I have read about cases of people getting esophogus herpes and NOT being hiv positive sometimes it just happens to healthy people...but the fact I got the throat herpes is making me worried...my doctor said it doesnt neccesarily mean that the person has hiv but it is very rare and i did have an hiv test that night in the hospital it came back negative. I do realize from some reading online that recently infected people show up negative sometimes. I also read somewhere that the odds through vaginal for a man to contract HIV are very low but I still understand there is a risk....Does anyone know about the esophegeal herpes in relation to hiv or am i just getting over worried? Im in the same boat,,altho i dont have any herpes i had 4g hiv test at week 1,6 and 11 all negative, im scared to have my final one ,but gum clinic say they wont test me again!
i had sex with a female too and am told is low risk,but a risk is a risk,,no matter what it is if u went in uncovered you are at risk!
im building the balls to go for my final test, ::)

and dont be worried we all die at some point and hiv is like diabetes these days,,

Worried, let's keep this simple. First all, using condoms should be the standard until if and when both partners have committed to an exclusively monogamous relations AND tested negative together reliably. Until that time you need to use a condom everytime for vaginal and anal intercourse.
It sounds like both of you ought to get tested for HIV at 13 weeks past the most recent unprotected incident. And doing a full STD panel sounds like a prudent idea as well.
Just in general you should know that HIV is much harder to transmit from female to male than the other way around. But lower risk is not the same as no risk so you do need to get tested.

Thank you Andy for the quick response and I will get tested. Have you any knowledge on esophogeal herpes ? Is that something that you would get as a sympton of infection? Just going crazy very stressed out

No, esophogal herpes is not an HIV-specific symptom. Tell your mind to take a rest.
