Test reliability
« on: May 04, 2007, 08:07:09 pm »
Hi, I had sex with a prostitute on 29th March. She was giving me oral, then intercourse, always with a condom, but anyway I'm seriously worried. Nothing wrong happened with a condom, but I guess there might have been some of her vaginal secretions left on me and Im afraid I could have touched it with my penis after having pulled off the condom.
I tested negative after 14 days and 26 days (antibodies and p24 tests).
How risky do you find my case? What about the tests I made? The whole thing is making my mad, I got another test today (so 5 weeks after), waiting for the result on Monday.

Oh, hon....your "risk" is basically non-existant.  No need for any other testing.  You're just worrying yourself into a fit.

Read the Lessons section here to get the low-down on how HIV is really transmitted.  It does not happen through skin contact like you describe.

Mistr, nothing you did during this incident with a sex worker put you at risk for HIV transmission.

There's no need for testing nor for further concern.

If you have symptoms which are troubling you discuss them with your doctor. This is absolutely NOT an HIV situation. Period.

Thanks thunter & Andy. I suppose all my symptoms are caused just by stress and hope they will disappear after 3-month test (cause I'm going to have one anyway).
I'm not worried about skin contact, but I remember she was firmly wet and the liquid stayed on me... I didn't washed it off (too much f** alcohol) and went to sleep... And I think I could have often touched it with my penis while sleeping. That's why I'm so worried ...

mistrz,

Hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus that is successfully transmitted INSIDE the human body, as in unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse. What you describe with her fluids touching your penis as you slept - no, it just doesn't happen that way.

You used a condom and condoms protect against hiv infection.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL STIs together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with a sexually transmitted infection. Sex with a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

While you do NOT need to test over this specific incident, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Thanks Ann. Well, what I the most probably suffer from, is so called "hivophobia". And I think nothing, no mental doc or whoever can heal it, but only a negative test at 3 months... So I have another 7 weeks to wait :-(
Will try to read neither forums nor any other hiv related pages until then and come back to you with (hopefully) negative result.
Thanks again for your priceless help.

Hi, just wanted to tell you, what you all surely expected, that I tested negative at three months. Thanks again.
