Misquitos
« on: July 06, 2011, 06:57:14 pm »
I've been on Intelence, Isentress and Truvada for 2 years now.  Last year I noticed mosquito bites were worse than in the past but wasn't too bad since I wasn't outside a lot last year.  This summer I am out a lot more and was at an outside party this weekend.  I sprayed head to toe with repellent but still managed to get bit horribly.  By this morning, these bites have turned into welts and I have them over most of my torso and even under my arms.  I have spent my life outdoors and in the woods and never been affected by them.

Has anyone else noticed these effects and does anyone have a home remedy they'd like to share?

we talk about this most summers, so I think there is a correlation between HIV meds and mosquito bites. I have found that Deep Woods OFF works when most other sprays, candles, lotions etc don't.

Just because you are HIV+ doesn't mean you don't have sweet blood... ;)

But seriously, I did kinda figure it out.  I didn't have the bites on my legs, face or arms.  I kept trying to figure it out and then suddenly the answer is so obvious.  When I caked myself with the highest DEET (probably spelled wrong) I ignore using it on my clothes.  The little bastards must be biting through our clothes.

I'll sacrifice an outfit or 2 that I can drench the hell out of... ;D

Edited.
I just fell in love with that little gril.  I'll just be the good uncle and lay in wait.

I just noticed this topic, and after seeing this i get the feeling there is something about hiv meds and mozzies.
Here where i live in Thailand the mozzies are rife. When i first came here 9 years ago i got bit once on my arm,or zapped lol, anyway it was a nasty zap and i still have a scar/slight hole where it got me,funny thing was i never ever got bit again after that one time,so i thought maybe i got some kind of immunity to the bast**rds now,so lucky as i could sit in the jungle watching all the locals getting bit to fu*k off em constantly, but not me.Then strangely after i started taking meds i started getting bitten by em all the time,i'd put it down to my immune system being so low at first, but now thinking back it cant have been that because my immune system must o been fairly fu*kd a good old while before, and they wernt biting me then.In fact ive been bitten by more insects/bugs ants and things than i"ve ever been in my life since starting meds.Anyway i just go through a can a week of DEET/OFF now, helps a lot but dunt stop em completely.
