I have a decent term life policy but term life cancels at a certain age and some may be renewed but not all.  My bank in L.A. had some people at the Social Security Office on the day I was going in for my first disability payment meeting.  I have a low premium but the policy expires on my 70th BD.  Sometimes I wonder why I have it because there is no cash value so it can not be borrowed against and I have on one to leave it to but I will be able to afford a showy funeral.  Have the best day

I asked my Case Manager once, he investigated and found that life insurance could not be denied to a person living with HIV because of HIV but the premiums could be increased.  At the time (1996) that premium increase was 10% in California.  Regulation re: insurance do vary from state to state.   Have the best day
Michael

You can check the question for HIV/AIDS in the past two years as NO.  If the insurance provider wants to test, they will telephone you for permission to send someone to your home or work... At that time you can say, "I'm sorry but I have chosen another policy."  They may also chose to grant the policy at the reat quoted for a person of your sex and age.  From there you accept the policy and begin making premium payments.  For two years that policy can be revoked and your premium payments are returned to you in full.  After those two years the only one who can cancel your policy is you.  Do not apply for a policy of $100,000.00 or more.  Also, every policy you apply for will be entered on your MIB report.

Interesting, up here the Canada Pension Plan (which all working Canadians are enrolled in) gives a funeral benefit to the family memebers of the deceased up to $2,500.  Doesn't get a "showy" funeral, but I always thought money spent on a funeral was money wasted.  Especially buying a fancy coffin that's gonna be cremated!

I received a policy worth 1X salary when I started my new job (no questions asked).  If I had not chosen to enroll when initially eligible - the provider would require a complete physical and receive a rejection letter shortly thereafter.

I've got a 3x annual salary while working, which diminishes to just about nothing after retirement (12 years from now!!)

my credit union just mailed me something. I have that automatic $1000 coverage but can up it with additional coverage. It's an Accidental Death and Dismemberment policy, $100,000 would be $10/mo. I read all over it to see about a medical exam, and there's nothing. It does however say that credit unionmembers...cannot be turned down.

This sounds more like an insult than help to me. I'm upset with what you just disclosed, this is a disgrace.

Not sure we are talking about LIFE INSURANCE or just crappy burial insurance (saving the money and leaving it to an heir is always cheaper, and can be paid gradually just like a small premium).  SO THIS IS JUST ON THE LIFE INSURANCE DISCUSSION (Debate?)...

The information you received seems 100% correct, and sorry it disappoints.

I have to disagree, on the "disgrace" part. If it reasonable to charge men more than women, and smokers more that nonsmokers, then not selling life insurance at average premium rates to people with hiv (outside of group coverage) is reasonable. Should a 79 year old be able to purchase life insurance as a last minute massive windfall to his estate? That would make burial insurance look like snack food by comparison. Greed comes to mind.

Everyone is morally entitled to quality medical care, which most or at least many receive through private health insurance (unlike Medicaid). But why life insurance? A group plan is open, provided you are still able to hold a job.

I don't think:
short life span------->>low cumulative premium payments=large payout is exactly fair to the insurers, especially when you realize chronically ill people may "viaticize" (sell) their insurance while still alive.

The "averaging" of costs and premiums protects the group plan from the added costs from people who are ill. If we had universal healthcare provided or administered by our government, it would also cost out this way. If we can leave our heirs a windfall through a group plan great! I've had such policies (currently none). I just don't think we have the right to "demand" access as individuals to such a potential windfall (for our estate), knowing full well the cost/benefit analysis shows something of a "steal" instead of a fair balance.

These policies are all near garbage. $120 (12% a year) a year---not for $1000 in life insurance---but accidental death or dismemberment.
Dying of cancer entitles you to z e r o.

Now if it was life insurance, I'd say it's just a little pricey.

Shortly after I was diagnosed I inquired about additional insurance..already had/still have a "life insurance policy"   the only thing worth considering for  the money was a guaranteed funeral ( actually a cremation) you pick what ever type of services you want and you can buy a "funeral " service for a fixed amount( as little as $900.00)  or for payments ( you choose how many)......If you choose a purchase instead of payments they don't care about your medical history  since the sooner you die the better it is for them ( cost keep rising as you live longer)   This type of preplan is an actual commitment to services not just a specific amount..IE: you get the funeral you chose not just xxx $s toward a funeral no matter when/how you die.  This of course is a great relief for whomever is left to take care of such things when you are gone....virtually no decisions to make except a phone call.....
If you are looking for an "inheritance"   I found none that were worth the premium..and most companies refuse you on some grounds or just make premium so high that you do better saving your money in a savings account.

I guess you have to consider why you are buying"insurance"....I found the preplan funeral to be best for my circumstances
remember the good times...honor the past but don't live there
