I, Robot, was ok but Will has a very nice ass!!!!! I haven't seen Legend yet but has heard it is good. I wanna see Alien vs Predator Requiem as well, it looks like it may be the best one yet. I don't think it will beat the ones with Sigurney in them but has to be than the last Predator vs Alien even though I did like that one too.

I want to see One Missed Call, that looks pretty good too. And the one with Jason Straham from the transporter, I forget the name. I think it is In the Name of the King. I still haven't seen the Elizabeth sequel, guess I will have to wait for the dvd or ppv.

I've been singing (and I ain't no good at it either!) "Sweeney Todd" songs around the house for the past week. I hope "somebody" gets the hint and takes me to the movie soon.  ;)

Good to hear a good review about Legend. I might go see it too, although it sounds like "Omega Man" recycled.

Saw the original, "The Last Man On Earth" on TV when I was a very young kid (no more than 4, I think  :o ) and it gave me recurring nightmares. Now the current version, Legend, is obviously much improved with amazing chilling special effects and cinematography. The whole movie with its post apocalyptic New York mood at ground zero and montrous despondent theme is very disturbing. Additionally, if u are a massive dog lover like I am, be forewarned. Even though it's just a movie, it will affect u somewhat. Go see it. It may jump start a slower heartbeat. ;D
Merry Christmas everyone! >:E~

PS: Will looks really amazing, and all on a diet of can foods to survive in the movie.  :D
Still puzzled on why Emma Thompson was uncredited for her amusing cameo at the beginning of the movie?

Does this mean what I think it means??  :o I don't watch movies where the doggie dies. I've had too much of that in my real life.  :'( (RIP Gabby 12/6/07)

For movie historians, back in the pre-Stoned Age of the 1950s, there was a movie with Harry Belafonte called THE WORLD, THE FLESH AND THE DEVIL about the last man wandering through Manhattan after everyone is wiped out. Until he finds Inger Stevens. And Mel Ferrer. Is this new Will Smith thing a rip on that one? Just wondering...

The original "The Last Man On Earth" was literally the last "true human" alive. Legend is a new remake with many new additions and great ones too. Think a version, or the one I watched at least, was written and made in 1964 and shown on TV. The horror in Legend is many times over and the adaptation is much slicker with cinematic new technologies. The storyline is also revised at many stages to add commercial mass appeal. Book purists however may protest but nevertheless, will enjoy the movie based on the same despondency both medium invokes.
Managed to locate one version starring Vincent Price. U can catch the full show here:

Sorry leatherman, without giving out too much for obvious reasons, it's best u give this movie a miss. Dogs are very precious and a big part of my life. I love them like my own kids and the portrayal in the movie (even though it's fiction), is very affecting & disturbing. I watched it cos the original version haunted me till today and wanted to revisit the possible reasons for the effect. Didn't bargained for a much bigger dose the second time around. Yikes! :o

I went and saw Alien vs Predator Requiem today (avpr, or alien vs predator 2)

I enjoyed it, lots of senseless violence, and blood and guts :-) plot is utterly predictable after the first 10 minutes :P but good entertainment  :-))

Seen a few movies lately.  My thoughts (trying to avoid spoilers)

I Am Legend:  Loved it until a woman and a child character entered the movie.  I think it lost it's nerve and I HATED the ending.  Overall though thought it was a good flick.

Sweeney Todd:  Basically it was Edward Scissorhands the musical.  Beautifully shot, and I loved Helena Bonham Carter in it (she alone is worth seeing it.) Depp was not the best choice for the role and was not Sweeney Todd at all.  I hated some of the changes particualrly in regards to Tobias' motivation at the end.  Also, How the HELL do you make a Sweeney Todd movie without the Ballad of Sweeney Todd?!?

They also cut out one of the great moments in the musical which was the powerful main building climatical combination numbers  of  City On Fire/ Johanna/nothings going to harm you and Beggar Woman's Lullaby?

In short: good movie, but horrific Sweeney Todd

Finally, we saw The Golden Compass which I enjoyed.  Didn't fall in love with it, but definitely want to now find the book and read it.

On my most wanted list to see is Cloverfield and Charlie Wilson's War

I'm going to see "Charlie Wilson's War" tomorrow with my father, even though I detest all movies with Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks.  I decided that "No Country for Old Men" might be too depressing for him based on what I heard from a friend, and I had no desire to see "I Am Legend" which was his other suggestion.

Not really surprised that the plot to Alien vs Predator R was predictable, it seems like most movies are nowadays.Damn Iggy, Sweeney sounds disappointing as hell... :( Maybe I should just stick with the Simpsons dvd.....*singing Spiderpig, spiderpig, does whatever a spiderpig does*

I may have given the wrong impression with my review.  I think Sweeney was a good movie and I enjoyed it for a lot of things, but as a Sweeney Todd fan (having seen the video of Angela Lansbury production many times and Seeing the Pattie LuPone version live on Broadway...on Halloween no less) I didn't find this a very good adaptation.

If you are not a Broadway musical fan or are more open to just the experience as just a ovie - then I think you will really enjoy.

An example I might cite is how Depp performs his songs, which for the most part seem more spoken through with musical accompaniment than actually performed.  What is funny is that Jeromy was against Depp playing the role since the first announcement and he was shaking his head at the first trailer.  I kept telling him to give it a chance...and it turned out that he was right.

I was wondering how Depp would do since Sondheim music is very difficult to sing ( by the way he is my all time favorite broadway composer...love Sunday in the Park with George).  Regardless, I still want to see it as I am a big Tim Burton fan as well.

Also love Sondheim and love Depp, though I did wonder about him in the role.  That review is rather insightful, really.  I'll almost certainly see it anyway.  The musical queen in me will not be able to resist.

I am wondering about Cloverfield.  My head has been in the sand on this one.  Not heard a peep about it until recently.  Did not go see Transformers, so I got no initial buzz.  I love a good monster movie, though!  Hellz yeah!  The good ones are few and far between, though.

My nephew went to see AVPR early yesterday, I think.  He said:   It was a lot better than the other one, and a lot more graphic with the violence.  Still expect plot holes you could drive a convoy through, but a fun ride.

Just saw an ad for the In the Name of the King.  I know absolutely nothing about that movie other than 300 seems to have inspired a bunch of sword and sandal flicks.  Meh.  Armor is great, but loincloths are better.   :P

They are showing Alien vs Predator on FX now. I was hoping they would've made the second one better than the first. I must admit I am curious to see what the storyline is suppose to be. I'm interested in In the Name of the King because of Jason Stratham really. He's had me since he did Transporter and Crank. He was also good in War with Jet Li.

We rented "Bourne Ultimatum" it was really good!  It starts 10 minutes after "Supremacy" ends and fills in a lot of gaps.  I didn't like the way it ended.  Not sure if they'll be a fourth.  We also rented "Rush Hour 3".  We'll watch it tonight.  I've loved the other 2, so it will have to be really bad not to like it.  We've also just watched the original "Shaggy Dog" which is a comic classic (and the 1st live action movie that Disney ever did) and the 1991 version of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - secret of the ooze".  Yeah, I know, but it was still funny.

We went to the theater and saw I am legend. I just finished reading the book too.
Both the book and the movie are pretty good. But they are very different stories.

In the book the main character is a white man who works in a factory.
The movie's character is a black man that is a lieutenant colonel <I believe that was his rank>

There is one type of monster in the movie.
The book has two types.

I wont go into any more details so I dont ruin it for anyone. You'll have to trust me that the stories are way different.

We rented "The Kingdom" with Jamie Foxx.  It was a wonderful movie and based on a true story.  It explains a lot about the US relationship with Saudi Arabia and the DVD has an interactive timeline that dates back to 1933.  Very informational.  We also rented (yes, we truly have no life) "Rush Hour 3".  It was predictable but absolutely HILARIOUS!  Hubby and I were laughing so hard at one point, we missed the next 10 minutes of the movie and had to rewind it.

Worst movies I've ever seen: "Water World" and "Rocky Horror Picture Show"

I couldn't agree with you more about Water World. I still haven't seen Rush Hour 3 yet. Since I am so ghetto fab, I am looking forward to the new Ice Cube movie, First Sunday with Katt Williams in it. Tracy Morgan too. If you guys get a chance and have cable, check out Paul Mooney's comedy show Jesus is Black and So is Cleopatra : Know your history....I warn if you are easily offended then don't watch it but I thought it was hilarious. I was in tears. I also want to see the new Queen Latifah movie.

Rocky Horror was only a good movie if you saw it in the 80s, at a midnight showing, with a bunch of your friends, stoned. Then it was an awesome movie.  :D

Or if you could appreciate it as a kitschy send up of the changing mores society was facing from the 50's through the 70's (and the excesses that went along with them) pinned to an homage to cheesy old B-grade Sci-Fi flicks.

I went to the midnight viewings of Rocky Horror in the mid 80's also. God knows how many times I've seen it. It is so stupid it amuses me. The audience participation is what made it great for me initially. I'll do the Time Warp with you....

I am one of the limited people who enjoyed Water World. I rarely meet someone who doesnt say something negative about it. I also liked the Postman. I cant think of a Costner movie I don't like...

If you have a chance, go see "Juno".  Funny and refreshing with some great performances.  Plus it was filmed right here in Vancouver. :)

Juno- Rated PG13
Description:
Facing an unplanned pregnancy, worldly teen Juno (Ellen Page) devises a plan to locate the proverbial perfect parents to adopt her baby. But the seemingly ideal couple Juno chooses appears to still have some growing up to do. Now, everyone in Juno's world must do a little soul-searching. Michael Cera (Superbad) co-stars while Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner play the pair of affluent yuppies anxious for a child in this offbeat coming-of-age comedy.

It has some really good reviews. I have it listed on my Netflix list. I'll watch it when it releases to DVD.

I've heard wonderful things about Juno as well.  I think my favorite comedy has to be "The Birdcage."  I just purchased it a few weeks ago and have already watched it twice (when I've needed a good laugh).

I love The Birdcage but loves To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar....I thought Patrick Swayze and John Leguizamo made some pretty good drag queens...Wesley was even convincing but not the cutest drag queen I have seen but not the worse either. I liked Robin Williams part in it and Rupaul as Rachel Tension.

we finally got around to seeing Sweeney Todd today. :D While it wasn't as good as Phantom of the Opera or Dreamgirls for strictly sticking to the broadway show, it turned out to be a pretty good movie; but then I always like Burton's style of movies (think Batman or Nightmare Before Christmas). Plus I knew all the words to the songs.  ;) I only got elbowed once by my honey for humming just a bit to loudly.  ;D

Since it's freaking cold as heck outside (today started at 9 and it go up to a big high of 18 WooHoo  ::) ) we rented Pirates of the Carribean 3 (which we hadn't seen yet) and the Simpson Movie (which we did see on the big screen this summer) to watch while wrapped up under the comforter on the couch this evening. I enjoyed Pirates but didn't think it was all that "cohesive" (meaning either I was too stoned or the movie plot wandered around alot and I just couldn't keep track all the time LOL). My honey dozed off (and snored just a little bit) so we called it a night. We'll catch the Simpson movie tomorrow. I do know that it'll be good for some laughs!  ;)

mikie

ps i forgot to mention the previews. saw a long trailer for Cloverfield and checked it out online. Sounds like Blair witch meets Godzilla. It might be interesting. Didn't see a trailer but saw a poster for Jumper. It might be interesting too.

Director Reitman gets a very good performance out of Jennifer Garner, so it must be good!  (can you tell she's not my fave?).  The actors who play Juno's parents are hilarious, can't recall their names but he was the nasty Neo-Nazi in Oz and she was in West Wing.

I'm waiting for "30 days of night" on blu-ray dvd in Feb 08.
I loved that movie in the theater and its dark wintery setting.
And what a great concept, vampires hitting towns up north where you have 30 days of night time.
No running off to the old casket every morning. You get to play suck-em 24/30.

Just when you think they have done all the twists on vampires they can, something new comes along.

A must see...

Well, Randy when you see "30 Days of Night" please let me know how it is.  I just love vampire movies and a couple months ago bought "Interview with the Vampire" and "Brahm Stoker's Dracula."

Yesterday I got "Rent" and "Running With Scissors" from the library.  I've never seen either and look forward to watching one tonight.

Of course, I love vampire movies. The name says it all... ;) 30 Days of Night was quite good and when it comes out on dvd, it is a must for my collection. I did have Interview with the Vampire once upon a time but someone stole it from me. I will have to get it again. Stroker's Dracula was good once I finally sat through the whole thing without falling asleep.. ;D I am not in a hurry to see Rent. I'm not into musicals all like that even though I did enjoy Hairspray and Dreamgirls...

I like Brahm Stoker's Dracula because it was so much of a love story. The first time I saw it, at the end when she takes him in the church to finish him off, I almost started crying. :D

I saw There Will Be Blood today. It was very different from amything else I have seen in a long time. There isn't a lot of blood in it so don't let the name fool you but it is an excellent period piece about oil and religion in the early 1900's. Very good story though a bit slow at times. At over 2 and a half hours though it is riveting.
