Elegance of disclosure, Vermeer eyes and fireworks
« on: November 06, 2006, 04:20:55 pm »
Last night was Nov 5th, Bonfire Night.  Only UK people will get the importance and anarchy that goes with this night, the essential part is FIREWORKS. Everywhere.

So, there I was, at the fireworks party, kiddies, buffet, people etc. Found myself in the kitchen with some blokes and time for another glass of wine.

Me: " This glass of wine is gonna make my eyes go yellow tomorrow"
Mr A: "I was thinking of changing my pills for those, but decided not too"

Etc. Me in the kitchen, 7 blokes, some Rioja, we continue this conversation.

At the end, longtime known Mr B says "Are you alright?" I say: "Yes", he says: "Me too".  This is deffo solidarity, cos we don;t really get on, even though we've known each other years. As have I all the other people in this kitchen conversation.  :) We know, we all know, we understand, but we don't have to say *.

Then, outside, fireworks.

I have noticed: if I get completely smashed, as I did, my eyes is clear white in the morning, rest of the time, thank you Reyataz, they have a slight Vermeer glaze.

Ah, November 5th.  I didn't know about this until I saw V for Vendetta and Stuart told me about the significance.

I'm sure you look as good in yellow as in white  :)  Thanks for sharing your night.

I loved that movie but did not understand the significance of the date. Makes sense now, thanks.

For the whole 6 1/2 years of living in the UK I never experienced bonfire night. Just the annoying "penny for the Guy" usually around Halloween.  Awhile back someone had a youtube link with that song, and I thought I had the cd, sure enough in a special paper promo package of Urban Hymns" Though a little weathered because it was in a cd rack (one of many) near a window,
Something always so eccentric about British Catholics- which is why i love Hitchcock!

A great movie.  I remember my late dad telling us about Guy Fawkes.  For some reason as I get older I have this incredible pining for the UK, though I've lived here all my life.  Strange.

London - 1 in 8 gay men HIV-positive, Brighton 1 in 7 (conservative estimate) confirmed by in-venue anonymous testing

They really should tell people (well, gay men) this before they leave London clinics after getting a +ve test result.
