Hi everyone,

Is it safe if i continue taking kaletra/alluvia drugs that expired on 31st December, 2011? if so, for how long can i do so? up to 3 months, 1 month? or not at all?

Who knows. Probably. Have they been stored in the recommended temperature and humidity ranges? Are they still sealed?

The FDA and US military did a study where they stored more than 100 different drugs for 15 years... at the end of the study, 90% of the drugs were still safe and effective. There were a few major exceptions such a tetracycline class antibiotics and insulin, but the vast majority of drugs tested were just as potent 12 to 15 years past their 'expiration' dates.

Kaletra/aluvia is a combination of lopinavir and ritonavir. Previous formulations of ritonavir were noted for having relatively short shelf lives...

Given the choice between taking a recently expired medication or going with out, I would opt for taking the drugs.

Thanks for the responses guys. I think i will take for a month whilst waiting for new consignment. Indeed, maybe its better to take the drugs than not.
