That Burger King burger that touts 1,250 calories, and 84 grams of fat, is positively immoral.

What are people thinking by eating this crap?

I try to limit myself to about 1,800 calories a day. If I ate one of those behemoth burgers I would be left with a salad to cover the rest of the day.

YIKES!

I really love BK and Wendys and hate the bad press they get. As long as you eat their food in moderation it's not bad. I mean it's just food for heaven sake not poison. However, I've never understood how these companies could even market these kinds of burgers. Doesn't it just sound reasonable to think that 1/3 a pound of beef or 3 patties for one sandwich is probably more that you should intake in a day, much less one meal?

But it's gotten that way in most restaurants too, not just the fast food industry. When my Mom, her husband, my GrandMother and myself go out to eat, at over half the restaurants nowadays we order 2 child plates from the menu along with 2 extra drinks  and 2 extra plates. It's actually quite shameful that a "child-sized" serving is enough to spilt between 2 adults.

You should have left off the pictures though, John. ;)
I now have a craving for a good ol' fresh-off-the-grill Whooper with cheese. ;D

If those burgers are a special treat, like birthday cake, I don't see the problem.  Shouldn't be a weekly regimen for anyone except maybe young atheletes with terrific calorie needs.

I'll take the third one.  Make it a double with bacon.  I'm glad we only have three locations in Miami, otherwise I'd eat these babies on a daily basis.

By the way, that picture does not do it justice.

I had them once, somewhere in Broward (while on a bad date).  Don't think we have any in the Dade area.  If we did they may have gone extinct like Miami-Subs (loved those guys with their greasy gyros).  But you are right; they are quite good.

No more Miami-Subs?  Damn I leave from down there and the place goes all to hell.   Miami Subs was always good about filling that late night hunger pain.

3 - 12 times a year i buy a double whopper with no mayo and decline addition of the pasteurized processed cheese food product -- as we say in da big easy i get it "dressed, hold the mayo [& square yellow vomit]."

last time i ate at ralleys, probably 9 - 10 years ago, my liver went through the hepatic equivalent of the Spanish Inquisition & barely survived.   now that i'm pre-diabetic (in part thanks to seroquel...) all that white bread is like 100 servings of daily carbs so often i just make a meat cookie (well, quasi-meat) with veggies in the middle but it's so messy.  i call it a sloppy bob.

of course i often cannot shake off a small serving of fries so might as well drink 200 proof alcohol on an empty stomach for a simular effect.

i consider consumption... of fast food as my art and artists must suffer for their art... or at least find some hook to make them salable.  i'm not cutting off an ear or even part of one unless the motivation$ are there...

Having this once every three weeks isn't so bad. 3-12 times a year isn't going to cause anything bad.

Burger #4 is  :)

Burger #4 is  :)

Back when I was young (damn, I sound old), I used to live in Los Angeles and there were some local burger joints called Fat Burger.

Not the knockoff wannabe fast food places like one I saw in Vegas several years back, but the REAL THING!

These were half-pound burgers, fried, not broiled, on a large steel griddle along with piles of bacon. Yes, hamburgers fried in bacon fat.  ;D

They would put a couple of slices of cheese, plus a few strips of bacon, plus some fried onions, and some tomatoes, with a dab of yellow mustard, on two burgers, all of which was piled on buns spread lavishly, and by hand, with mayonnaise and quick squirt of ketchup.

Now, my dear burger neophytes, that was a burger!  Lordy, they were good! ;D ;D ;D I would usually finish off the burger, some curly fries and a large Dr Pepper for lunch.  :o

Of course, I was young, very active, skinny as a rail and could eat anything, any time, any place, and never gain an ounce.

I also always polished off the meal with at least two Camels.

Ahhh, those were the days!

Now, all I have to do is imagine that pile of food and I gain weight and cholesterol skyrockets. >:(

HUGS,

Mark

I'm also traumatized.  What happened to Miami Subs?  I used to always go to the one on Collins Avenue on Miami Beach (though not in the past few years).   :(

Edited: Miami Subs is still open with 20 new stores set to launch in Romania!  Seriously!

I need to eat 3 a day just to put on a pound a week. I'm about 118 used to weigh 135 before the hiv and just can't gain it back. I wish I could afford to eat 3 burgers like that every day.

I had not noticed that people had responded to my misleading statement.  I should have said "endangered species" instead of "extinct."

Truth is that most of the main locations are gone (specifically in Miami).  The ones on US-1 and 67th and US-1 and 163rd are gone, the one in the Gables is closed, the one heading towards the Keys, the South Beach location as well, and so on.

Some of the Miami Subs in the MIA have closed (the one on Washington and 9th by the Twist on SoBe is closed) and one of the ones on Biscayne, but there is still one on 167th - North Miami and I have seen others around.

FYI - Arby's has some great subs, as does Dominoes

I like my BK Whopper
But definitely could not even think about eating some of the burgers that started the thread.
Also, love a thin crust Papa Johns meat lovers pizza every now and then and Flannigan's for chicken wings.

It's a little known fact that I rather like Arby's, but there aren't any close by so I never get to go -- there's one at King of Prussia mall, but it's kind of a dump though surprising since the mall is so upscale.  But I've not set foot in a shopping mall now since 2005 and don't plan to.

Now, I just may pop into Five Guys when I go to the Reading Terminal Market for my week's supply of Poco Fundo ogranic coffee, but then I may not.  I just discovered this stall at the market run by Amish women where you can get a full turkey dinner with gravy and mashed potatoes.

I'm dying to try a In-N-Out Burger Hamburger because I hear such raves, but alas I never get out to the West Coast because that gives me hives.

When I was a kid we lived in downingtown and I remember going to the King of Prussia mall and eating those massive soft pretzels slathered in mustard.  Damn I wish I were in Pennsylvania for the weekend.

You'd live for my hood then -- here's a sampling.  It's a mere 10 minute walk from me, though I really don't eat them often.  King of Prussia is just a lame suburban area... it's all about South Philly for food -- I'm also just 7 blocks away from the legendary cheesesteak places and other great hoagie treasures.  Nothing beats a classic Italian hoagie with oil and vinegar, on fresh baked break from Sarcone's bakery.

I have decided to delay my Five Guys until Monday, as I think I have enough coffee to last me until then.  Plus on Monday it's going to be a balmy 55 F here so it will an excellent opportunity to take in a matinee showing of the new Almodóvar flick, Broken Embraces.

Otherwise I adhere to a strict diet of cigarettes, hot water, and lemons.  It's the only way to still squeeze into a pair of 31" Dior waxed resin treated jeans paired with a pink spaghetti strap tank top.

I hope you like 'Broken Embraces' as much as I did.  In my opinion it is worth all the praise that it's been given.

In & Out burgers are really good, I think of them as the west coast Five Guys.  Surprised that you're not much of a San Francisco lover.
