Oh please, mary -- back in '78 we had ~27" in one storm and 2 weeks later had 54" (I win!).  Hell the state of RI was shut down for 2 weeks and snow removal equipment was flown in from Buffalo.......

I'll have to bow out of this one -- our largest storm on record was this one and while I wan't living here I had to come down a couple days later for an AIDS funeral. That was 30.7 inches. Surprisingly NYC's largest is only 26.9" in 2006

Also, cocks

edit: some of those results are surprising -- we get more snow than North Dakota? Pennsylvania's largest total is 38" in 1958, a mere 50 miles away from me.

ps: bocker, that link says the highest recorded snow in Rhode Island is 30 inches in 1978. I think I just beat you by 0.7" unless you can show that the Weather Channel is staffed with incompetent liars.

These reports can't be right -- for RI they not only have the storm I mentioned, but they have my hometown in the pic -- they say 30" and, trust me, that ain't right.  We had 54" of snow (and not like Wumpy's 8" measurement either).  I've never seen anything like it since.  The forecast was for flurries, then they changed it to something like 4-8" and the storm bombed out and stalled.  It snowed for 2 days straight -- heavy snow.

Blizzard of '78 Revisited: http://www.erh.noaa.gov/box/papers/Bliz78NWS.pdf

Sorry, NOAA wasn't in Woonsocket.  Every paper in the area says 54 and my house was up on a hill with a nearly 6' wall around it.  The snow was coming damn near the top of the wall -- in fact, my dog, Lucky (a Dalmatian), ran right off the wall and sunk in the snow.  If it weren't for her black spots she might have been a goner.....
Hell -- even the link you provided shows 54" (unofficial, though it may be) in Woonsocket.  So, you may try to prove me wrong, but you won't -- I was there and the news reporters were there, no one from your precious NOAA was anywhere within mere miles of it.

I still win!

The protective net over the pond collapsed.  We got about 2 inches Friday and then about 4 inches in this last storm.  The snow was heavy.  When we got that ice storm and snow in December, the net was fine.  We've already had to free a few birds (one Dove) from the net.  They are trying to get to the water and don't see the net, I guess.

I love snow, but I'm sick of the cold.  Going to be just 10 degrees tomorrow.  But, my Orchids are both blooming again.  And, that window isn't insulated the best.  I thought the cold would kill them.  We left up the lights on the arbor.  Pretty with the snow.

Ah, the glories of urban row house living -- I just noticed, after being awake for 2 hours, that it is 62F in my apartment. I turned the heat off last night around 8PM when I was cooking and forgot to turn it back on when I went to bed. Considering it went down to 8F last night that's not to shoddy, and I didn't wake up freezing at all during sleep (I have both a thick wool blanket and a goose down comforter with a flannel duvet).

I just made some buttermilk biscuits last weekend, and fresh blueberry buttermilk pancakes (both from scratch).  They were delish.

Buttermilk biscuits from scratch are the besets! You know these Southern Queens here all cheat and use Bisquick. So not fetch.

I think I might make some spelt flour pancakes tomorrow and top them with chai-enfused maple syrup.

for Wumpy: what is spelt flour?

ps: 1-4 inches of snow tomorrow for the Philadelphia Metro area, but mostly northwest suburbs so I'll get off lightly with hope. Another snow event due Wed-Thurs as yet not determined in strength.

pps: evidently this is what closes schools in Austin, TX

I love chai!  Sounds excellent in maple syrup.  I bought some real maple syrup yesterday when I got groceries.

Will, this is an excellent moisturizer:

http://www.philosophy.com/anti-aging/miracle-worker-moisturizer,en_US,pd.html

I use it at night, not in the morning (which is when I use Clinique's newest moisturizer).  It feels kind of heavy, but after an hour of being on your skin, it sinks right in and makes your skin feel really soft.  I've tried a couple other moisturizers but always return to this.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, I craved raw Bisquick dough. And yes, I gave in to the craving on more than one occasion and no, it wasn't fetch, I'll admit. ;D

Yes, he's obviously in dire need of a "facial". ;D

That definitely sounds odd, though honestly I'm not sure what it would taste like. I'd rather have yellow cake mix from a box -- I used to make that for us when we got stoned in college and everyone was amazed that I ate huge bowls of it like soup, so then they tried it and got hooked.

It didn't really taste all that great, but it wasn't horrible either.

It's also not the weirdest thing for a woman to have craved during pregnancy. Some of the odder cravings (and more common than you may think) include dirt and coal. They reckon craving mineral-based things indicates a mineral deficiency, but I've go no idea why I craved raw Bisquick. Cooked/baked Bisquick just didn't do it.

I also craved ordinary things like Reuben sandwiches, but without sauerkraut. I miss Reubens - you can't get proper corned beef here, you can only get the tinned stuff. Yuck.

Oh, we have delicious ones here. It would be a bit of work but couldn't you attempt to make your own corned beef? Then you could have it as a meal but then use the left overs for sandwiches. Can you get good Jewish rye bread there?

I knew nothing of such things growing up in Virginia, but as soon as I had that apartment on the Lower East Side I was surrounded by all things Jewish. Do you eat knishes as well?

When I was about 4 or 5 I had cravings for very odd things so my mom took me to the doctor and mentioned it . The doctor put me on some vitamins and I stopped eating the things I should not have . I do not remember the doctor part but I do remember sneaking food and getting caught .

When I took my garbage out a while ago, I had to walk through over 1' snow drifts from my apartment steps to the garbage cans.  Tuesday's high here is forecasted at  -1F.  Fun fun!
