Help please, it's driving me insane.
« on: January 19, 2012, 06:25:05 am »
So around the end of October I was at a party and I hooked up with this random girl.
She looked clean and everything, no visual signs of any STD's.

I used a condom that was pre-lubricated in the package and it had been in my jacket pocket for a few hours + it wasn't expired and it was quite a cold day/night.

I'm not sure if the condom broke because I didn't ejaculate but we were having sex for about 30 minutes.. I made sure to hold the tip and roll the condom down when I was putting it on but I'm still worried.

1 day after exposure I had a sore throat and a small insignificant fever. It was no way a flu, rather than a quarter of a cold ?

I went to the doctors 2 weeks after possible exposure and had a hiv test and tests for other stds. I'm not sure if the antibody test or the p24 antigen test was used but the results came back negative a week later and he left it at that, not saying if I had to go back at 3 months or any other time.

Right now I'm having a watery stool once every week or so, I'm not sure if it's diarrhea because I researched and it's only diarrhea if it's persistent and lasts for more than 3 constant watery stools a day.
I also developed a redness on the corner of my lips and it's really dry and irritating but I had this earlier in the year before I had sex. My upper lip is also extremely dry. Are all of these acute HIV symptoms ?

Do you guys think I should go back for another test in 3 months or is it safe to say I'm HIV negative ? Thanks.

You never had an exposure. Had the condom failed you would have known without a doubt.

Condoms when they fail, fail catastrophically. The do not get small holes.

derek,

I agree with Rodney - if the condom broke, you would have known.

She looked clean and everything, no visual signs of any STD's.

Mate, I look clean too - in fact I am clean. I had a shower about an hour ago. You need to understand that it is very insulting to use the term clean to describe a person's sexual health as it implies that those of us who are poz are dirty.

You cannot go by how someone looks or what they do for a living or where they live or whatever. You must assume ANYONE you hook up with is hiv positive and act accordingly - by using condoms for intercourse, every time, no exceptions.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED FURTHER TESTING AT THIS TIME, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Sorry about that Ann.

May I also finally ask if these symptoms should be of any concern to me?
As in are they HIV specific in any way?

derek,

If you continue to feel unwell, see a doctor. Whatever is going on has nothing to do with hiv and no, your symptoms are in no way hiv specific.

Hey guys sorry to bother but these past 3 days I've been having diarrhea and it's brought my anxiety back up. What is HIV diarrhea like? There's no apparent weight loss though. I'm not sure if the medicine my doctor prescribed for my sunburnt/swollen lip is causing this diarrhea.
Also what does the Acute HIV Flu feel like and does everyone get it 2-4 weeks after infection?

Derek,

You don't have HIV. You have been told this already.

If you feel sick, see a doctor.

You won't be allowed to mooch around here looking for sympathy.
