As I was doing my daily activities and just listening to the digital radio station provided through our cable system I found I was enjoying almost every song that played. As the wine poured and the music got louder, found myself be bopping around the house being productive and decided to add it to my favorites. The horror, it's called rock and roll oldies. Bring on the depends and slap me old, cause that's still the best shit ever. I think they oughta rename it "music that had words". And as I'm typing this, they included John Denver's "Thank God I'm a country boy". I'm pertty sure that wasn't considered rock and roll way back when.

I listen to oldies sometimes in my work truck. Heard "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" by the tokens, and "In The Year 2525" by Zager & Evans, and also "Witch Doctor" and "Little Nash Rambler"

Had some random online radio station keyed in: played Pablo Cruise, Player, England Dan/John Ford Coley, Ambrosia, Gary Wright, Firefall etc...
Anyway--before I notice, I've turned it up and am actually SMILING(?) I know--WTF???
Just as I realize I'm actually enjoying it--a 30-something co-worker says to me in mocked distain,

Don't get me started about Aretha she is the BOMB! Motown is the best, as a kid my mom taught me to dance listening to all her 45's from the late 50's-60s

That era did produce some great music. For me, the music towards the latter part of that decade was my favorite!

I was watching VH-1's 100 Greatest Artist of All Time the other night. Sly and The Family Stone came in the top 40. I know everyone remembers this, seeing it performed live is something special.

Tomas, Sly Stone was a DJ on one of the local Soul Stations KDIA AM 1310 Oakland Ca, when I was a 10 yrs old before he became BIG w/ Sly And The Family Stone ;) so do the math, and you'll fine out how old I'm and what part of the country I grew up in ;D

I cheated and looked at your profile, it says 54. Here's that top 100 list VH-1 compiled from votes by various artist. In years past the Rolling Stones always came in second on such list only to the Beatles. Now since the passing of MJ they've dropped all the way back to 4rth and somehow Led Zepplin rode the death into 3rd. I don't know if I agree with that.

All of them are very good, that's why they are in that Top 100 ;)

though I can agree with quite a bit of this list, you can tell it's not quite right ie based on actual sales. I mean Timberlake has only had two albums (he was going to stay in acting; but word is he's working on disc #3) and yet placed 66; while the Bee Gees are at 88. (If this list had been compiled closer to the late 70s, as some were talking about in this thread, the BGs would have been much, much higher on the list.)
Plus I would have listed Paul above John; but it's interesting to see the Beatles influence so much with position #1, #31 and #36

I would have put Paul above John too.. Part of me doesn't get people's infatuation with Bob Dylan. Aside from seeming like an ass, he is hard to look at, and has one of the worst voices recorded in my opinion. But, some of his lyrics are pretty deep, and there's no doubt he has song writing talent. While watching the top 100 they mentioned many of the songs he wrote for other artists and they were all huge hits.

the only song of his that I ever much cared for was "you belong to me"; but I think that was only because it was in the "Natural Born Killers" soundtrack and fit so well. LOL
thinking back to the 60s-70s again, I'm surprised the Supremes, Carpenters, Streisand, or Styx didn't make the list; or Duran Duran from the 80s. but at least the list was sensible enough to leave Britney off. LOL
