anxious ...?
« on: April 19, 2010, 05:07:27 am »
i m male 23 from delhi on april 1st i had sex with a sexworker for the first time, i used a condom but it broke twice. everytime the condom broke the exposure lasted for only 3 to 5 seconds probably.i dont know whether the head of my penis was exposed in that short exposure time. i dont know her hiv status. we were also engaged in mouth kissing and she gave me brief oral too(unprotected). i don knw why the condom broke...probably i was putting it in wrong fashion. she ended up giving me a hand job.i did not ejaculate inside her at all, i am really worried about the incident...and have gone through internet for information ......my anxiety level and fear is pretty high ...unable to concentrate on my work and probably becoz of that i had fever with shivers on around 9th day after the exposure. i had never had sex before.  i have lost my apetite...had strained watery eyes...and had headache and also had oral ulcer under my tounge on 14th day from the exposure...please help.... i have also read sum where which says...broken condom risk is same as risk of unprotected vaginal sex??? ??? :-[...i have sore throat also, but that is from the time before exposure....

No, a broken condom really isn't the same level of risk as unprotected vaginal sex. You were protected up until the condom broke and really the level of risk here is very slight indeed.

But a risk is a risk and you should be tested for HIV 13 weeks from the date of this incident. I really think you'll test negative - HIV is difficult to transmit, particularly from female to male.

As you note the most likely reason the condom broke is because you did not use it correctly. Always use quality latex condoms which have not passed their expiry date and have been stored properly. Use only water based lubricants. No hand creams or lotions as oils will dissolve latex.

Symptoms are never an indicator of HIV status as many people who do contract HIV have no symtpoms of acute infection at all.

Please read our Welcome Thread and follow the links to our lessons on HIV testing and transmission.

Does it matter that your partner was a sex worker? No. HIV is all about what people do, not who they are.

Yes, you can test at 6 weeks and receive an excellent indicator of your HIV status as most people who will seroconvert do so somewhere between 4-6 weeks. Be aware that if you test negative at 6 weeks you will still need to have that result confirmed at 13 weeks.

I really expect that you will test negative.

Anku, I agree completely with what Matty has said to you. Although theoretically there was some risk because the condom broke, the risk was a very low one. HIV is a fragile virus and is not easily transmitted. It is significantly more difficult to transmit from female to male. Your potential exposure was very brief in your incident.

I do expect that you will test negative.

As for your "symptoms," there is nothing in any way HIV specific about them. If they persist you should discuss them with your doctor.

I understand that you are worried, but I do expect you will come out of this ok.

Cheers.

Kissing is not a risk for HIV transmission. Receiving oral is one of the most common of sexual activities. In the entire history of the epidemic there has never been a single confirmed case of transmission in that manner to a guy. It's safe to say you aren't going to make history by becoming the first.

As for the condom break, it was an extremely low level risk.

While waiting to test at 6 weeks for an initial result,(if you decide to do that for your peace of mind), you are going to have to work hard on putting your attention on other things in your life. That will help the waiting to pass much more easily. And don't bother saying you are too worried to do that because I can tell you that response won't fly here.

Now, get on with your day. I expect you to come out of this ok.

Are you really reading what we are saying to you? It doesn't seem as if you are listening to anything other than your anxious thoughts.

We've already told you that you had a very low level risk and that we expect you to ultimately test negative. There's really nothing more to say beyond that. You just have to patient (or impatient) and wait until you can get tested.

Fever, fatigue, oral ulcers. These symptoms can be caused by just about anything. That's why we're  saying the only way you'll know for sure is to be tested.

No, we are not diagnosing your symptoms as "anxiety related." In fact we are not diagnosing anything here. We cannot do that in this setting. What we are telling you is that you had a very, very low level risk and that ultimately we expect you to test negative.

Your symptoms are something for you to discuss with your doctor.

ARS symptoms come on all at one time and after a week or two are gone.

In my experience those who experience broken condom incidents such as yours end up being negative.

All but the very smallest number of those who are going to seroconvert will do so within 4-6 weeks after an exposure. If noticeable symptoms are going to appear it will be sometime during that period.

Your risk was low begin with. Since you have those negative results including one at 8 weeks, it's a virtual slam dunk that you will continue to test negative.

None of the symptoms you are reporting are in anyway HIV specific. It's your mind going to town with your fears and doubts.

I fully expect you to test negative when you re-test.

Meantime get busy with other things in your life. It will help the time to pass more quickly than you may imagine is possible. And don't bother saying you're too worried to do that because that response wouldn't fly in here.

Cheers.

anku,

If your fever at three to four weeks had anything to do with hiv, you would have tested positive at your eight week test. You didn't. Relax. You're going to continue to test negative over this incident.

Make sure you read through the condom and lube links in my signature line. A correctly used condom rarely breaks. Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

anku,

A three month test is conclusive. You should wait another week for your conclusive result. I'm fully expecting it to be negative.

If your eyes are bothering you, see an eye doctor. There are hundreds of things that can affect your eyes, so get checked out. It's not hiv related.

That's probably the Rapid HIV card test which is being referred to. Yes, it is a reliable test.

You have a very brief time to wait until you can do the test. Take a breath, stop with all this drama. We continue to expect you to test negative.

Three months = twelve weeks = 84 days. Yes, you can get a reliable, conclusive result at 85 days.

anku,

We've already told you that 85 days is conclusive.

You are conclusively hiv negative. You do not have hiv and you do not need further testing over this broken condom.

As we repeatedly told you, you were never likely to end up positive over this.

If you read the Welcome Thread before posting like you're supposed to, you will have read the following posting guideline:

Quote

Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to a four week Time Out (a temporary ban from the Forums). If you continue to post excessively after one Time Out, you may be given a second Time Out which will last eight weeks. There is no third Time Out - it is a permanent ban. The purpose of a Time Out is to encourage you to seek the face-to-face help we cannot provide on this forum.

Please consider yourself warned!

As you have been told you are HIV negative. Your test results for HIV are conclusive.

The seroconversion period for syphilis is three months - the same as with HIV. The chancre associated with the primary stage of syphilis occurs much sooner than 94 days. I would suggest that your syphilis blood test result is conclusively negative.

We are an HIV specific site, if you have further questions about STDs other than HIV you should speak to your doctor.

i was in thailand for ma vacation last week i had 4 sexual encounters:

1. had a soapy massage with the a women in the same tub and then followed by some lip kissess and then sucking and protected intercourse i was lil worried that my condom might have broken ( god knows how that came in ma mind) but got it confirmed by the lady, as she showed me the condom itself  and also assured me that she would have come to know much earlier if it had broken, hiv status of the lady is unknown... and condom too had no spill when she showed it to me.

2. another soapy massage, no kissing , only blowjob with condom and sucking. only possible threat to me was her saliva on condom...don knw if condom broke or not....i guess it didnt..!!

3. penetrated another women with condom, for very short tym may be around a minute and then finished up with a blowjob with same condom...came inside her mouth....checked up condom found no spills...probably and neither did lady complain abt it...

4. had another blowjob with condom and finished with a handjob with condom on it...sucked her breasts, and probably condom didnt broke at any point becoz i didnt found any spill...

is it possible that i might have contracted hiv or anything through these encounters???...feeling very axious..and scared abt it... :-[ :(

i was in thailand for ma vacation last week i had 4 sexual encounters:

1. had a soapy massage with the a women in the same tub and then followed by some lip kissess and then sucking and protected intercourse i was lil worried that my condom might have broken ( god knows how that came in ma mind) but got it confirmed by the lady, as she showed me the condom itself  and also assured me that she would have come to know much earlier if it had broken, hiv status of the lady is unknown... and condom too had no spill when she showed it to me.

2. another soapy massage, no kissing , only blowjob with condom and sucking. only possible threat to me was her saliva on condom...don knw if condom broke or not....i guess it didnt..!!

3. penetrated another women with condom, for very short tym may be around a minute and then finished up with a blowjob with same condom...came inside her mouth....checked up condom found no spills...probably and neither did lady complain abt it...

4. had another blowjob with condom and finished with a handjob with condom on it...sucked her breasts, and probably condom didnt broke at any point becoz i didnt found any spill...

is it possible that i might have contracted hiv or anything through these encounters???...feeling very axious..and scared abt it... :-[ :(

1. No risk for hiv infection. Condoms have been proven to prevent hiv infection. There have been three long-term studies of couples where one is positive and one is negative. In the couples who used condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, but no barrier for oral activities, not one of the negative partners became infected with hiv. Not one.

2. Again no risk. Not only is saliva not infectious, but it also contains over a dozen different proteins and enzymes that damage hiv and render it unable to infect.

Broken condoms are very obvious. You would KNOW if the condom broke. No doubt about it.

3. No risk. Getting a blowjob, with or without a condom is absolutely NOT a risk for hiv infection. Nobody has ever been infected by getting blown and you aren't going to be the first.

4. NO RISK! Sucking a woman's breasts is not a risk for hiv infection.

You have not had a risk for hiv infection in any of the activities you engaged in. You did the important thing and used condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse. That's all you need to do.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST SPECIFICALLY OVER ANYTHING YOU BROUGHT TO US, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. IT REALLY IS THAT SIMPLE!!!!

thanks a lot for your assessment over ma situation...

i am lil worried about the 1 and 3 incident in which the lady sucked ma penis with condom on it and later i had vaginal sex in both the cases but for very short span of time may be for a minute or two..the thing that worries me is that the ladies might have damaged the condom while performing blowjobs and i ended up having vaginal sex with same condoms on ma penis...i might have contracted something if any of them was hiv +. both of them were professional sex workers in thailand. to ma knowledge condom did not broke in either cases. becoz i din see any semen spill.. :-\

Anku,

As I said before, a broken condom is VERY obvious. You WOULD know.

Your condoms didn't break so you were not at risk. Relax already. You did the right thing and used condoms so put this behind you and move on with your life.

thanks ann...for your kind reassuring words...

another small thing that struck ma mind was ...in the 4th incident while i was trying to undress the girl, i got a small cut on ma  middle finger and i guess drops of blood ozzed out frm it...not a deep cut, but  a very small cut probably from her bra hooks...i used that hand to caress her body, press her boobs and probably might have touched ma penis with her saliva on ma condom, she din allow me to touch her vagina , so  i never fingered her.. i there any possible threat  with this cut on ma finger ....

Absolutely not.
