NB. Any advice about HIV is given in addition to your own medical advice and not intended to replace it. You should never make clinical decisions based on what anyone says on the internet but rather check with your ID doctor first. Discussions from the internet are just that - Discussions. They may give you food for thought, but they should not direct you to do anything but fuel discussion.

Did they already hit the market shelves? I thought the first integrase inhibitor (MK-0528? MK-0518?) is expected to be introduced somewhat later this year. I guess it's probably too early now to give detailed account on long-time side effects.

The Merck integrase inhibitor (MK-0518) is available through an Expanded Access Program. It is expected that the drug will be approved late this summer.

I started the EAP nine days ago. Too early to say much about it, except I haven't had any side effects so far. It's supposed to be very well tolerated, with minimal side effects occurring during the clinical trials.

I'll report back in another month, after I get the results of my next lab work.

integrase is an enzyme that does not exist in the human body unlike,  so theoretically or logically it is suppose to have less side effects,

protease or nuke and non nuke reverse transcriptase which are three processes or enzymes that the body uses to function and when they are inhibited cause many problems because the body needs them to function as well as  side effects caused by the toxicity of the substance over many years which is a different issue.

the integrase is in a clinical trial at a university near me and they are offering it as a first line of defense, in one of the poz magazines the monthly dr. column said about 2 months ago that he envisions a time in near future one two years, that the first set of meds will be a combo of three new classes like an integrase, a maturation inhibit, and a entry inhibit.  with out and not using any of the 3 common classes today, nukes, non nukes, and protease.
