Thanks Miss P..so basically the standard for a high res procedure is just local numbing and no sedation required? So I wouldn't even need a driver for the procedure? Still not sure why back a few months ago when they had me scheduled for one that it was marked "general anasthesia" as most say on here there's zero need to be put to slep for such a minor procedure. I wil definitely not permit that.

I'll just see what the doc says. I may ask for another pap test first but if he thinks the high res is needed Ill do it.

He's a good CRS I think this is just still a new area of care
in regards to gay men's rectal issues and standards for procedures are different in places.

I'll get a lot more clarity on my appointment I hope..and lord knows I've been poked and prodded already so a little more won't be new lol

They don't even use general anaesthesia for a colonoscopy and am pretty certain they would never do so for such a simple procedure as an endoscopy.  I don't even recall if they used a cream or not on me.  But since I had radical ass surgery, these simple procedures don't phase me.

My specialist does mine right in his office and we have a conversation the entire time...well, him talking and me mostly flirting and making my innuendos.    He even wipes me clean and sends me on my way.  Wow, that sounds like my first date.

Quit fretting and simply ask him questions.

I've only ever been given a mild sedative.  Does this also vary by doctor?  The only time I was put completely out was when they went in and had to cut out all the nasty.  Unfortunately, they gave me Versed that I had an awful reaction to.  Didn't even know it shouldn't have been given to me with my meds.

The anascopy has always been given straight up sans no meds.  I do remember him lubing it so maybe it also had a mild numbing agent.

Yea when I had colonoscopy both times the just used twilight sedation where your awake but you just don't remember it at all. Seems like a colonoscopy is even more invasive than a hig res anoscopy would be since they go all the way up in your bowel during a colonocopy whereas a high res is just the anus.
I had to have surgery once to remove a polyp it was actually a EUA exam under anesthesia they put me totally to sleep for that one.

But everything I've heard for the high res is that it doesn't require any sedation other than maybe local numbing or maybe twilight.

But I wouldn't think a high res procedure would warrant general anasthesia at all right?

And I've had the regular office anoscopies before too they don't use any numbing even just lube and that's it.

The way I'm leaning now is to talk to my doc and see if he wants t just do another pap first since it's less invasive and if it hasn't changed or has gotten better then maybe I won't need a HRA..Ill just see what he says.

Robby, I can understand how you would have taken this the wrong way, but Ms. P was only trying to be helpful. 

If this is something you have covered multiple times, then one may wonder why you're bringing it up again? 

This most likely has to do with your mental health issues.  If you are ever on a stable ground with them, you will be surprised that some of these constant fears, concerns etc. will disappear.  But you have to be willing to pursue and stay on treatment for the mental health issues.  I am sorry if you are doing this now and I missed it in earlier posts.
