Title: Test Results
Post by: badbaby1971 on April 23, 2012, 05:41:43 pm
I was hoping to get my test results from my pap and anal pap smear in the mail today. I have so been stressing on them. I keep telling myself that my old doctor had said that while I had HPV none were the cancerous type. But as you know that was before I new I had aides. My new ID doctor did the new tests at my last appointment about 3 weeks ago and I haven't heard anything so I try to keep telling myself that all will be OK, my mind just doesn't seem to want to litsen. Plus I have never had the anal pap before. I hate all the waiting!!!!

Just got my test results back, it said that the pap showed some things that must be investigated and to please call the Dysplasia Nurse to make an appointment. Should I be worried about this? Has someone had the same letter I have and can tell me some things? Im kind of scared.

Sorry to hear you didn't have better news. Do you know if the problem was with the anal PAP or the cervical PAP?

I've had cervical PAPs come back as "abnormal" in the past, but both times it was a false alarm. Evidently that's fairly common. After the abnormal results, I had to have a colposcopy done where they look at your cervix with microscope-type thing that projects a huge image of your cervix on a monitor. Both times the colposcopy showed no problems. Hopefully the same will be true for you as well. A colposcopy isn't the most pleasant procedure, but it doesn't hurt. Aside from the camera/microscope thing, it's no different to having a PAP or regular vaginal exam.

Some of the guys here are well-versed in anal dysplasia. If you use the site's search engine (http://forums.poz.com/index.php?action=search;advanced), I'm sure you'll find plenty of posts on the subject.

Try not to worry too much (I know, easier said than done) but if there truly is a problem, it's better to know about it so it can be treated. Hang in there and let us know what the dysplasia nurse has to say. Good luck!

Oh, by the way, I merged your two threads on this subject, as it gives a fuller picture of what's going on. Hope you don't mind. :)

Just talked to the Dysplasia Nurse and she said that I have low grade Vaginal and anal Dysplasia, She didn't seem to worried about it, I have a doctors appointment on June 12Th to get it checked out more, and then he will refer me to another doctor for the low grade anal dysplasia. I do feel better now knowing that it is low grade and most likely not to lead to cancer.

Thanks Ann for taking the time to answer my concerns and making me feel better.

I had grade II around 8 years ago (long before I was pos) and had to have a loop diathermy which is where they burn off the affected parts of your cervix.  it was horrible, I won't lie to you!!  My following 3 years of tests showed as 'abnormal' but no treatment required and since then they have always come back as normal.  Try not to worry because it's a simple procedure and they've found out very very early.  Oh and I got to watch it all on a screen as they put a camera up too, he he he......

Thanks for that responce I am trying hard not to worry since its more then a month until I go to see the specialist, and all I have found on the subject says that low grade hpv vaginal or anal isn't going to lead to cancer. Thanks to you all for caring and keeping me informed and my spirits up

If they thought it was more serious, I'm sure they would have you in the office ASAP. So the fact that they're happy to wait until June is good news. Hang in there in the meantime and try to not think about it too much.

Hugs,

Thanks Ann for your response it makes me feel so much better, and I was doing some more research on the subjects and scared myself today so I call the nurse again and she told me to stay off the internet researching these things because like she said it is low grade and with what my old doctor had said that none of the hpv was the kind that causes cancer that I really don't have anything to worry about. But try telling that to a Bipolar person like myself. My daughter is ready to kick me in the butt if I don't stop stressing. But hearing from you all also makes me feel better. Time for me to stop stressing (easier said then done). Love to you all and thanks again.

Badbaby1971,

I had a problem of looking at the internet all the time also, my doctor told me the same thing your nurse told you.

I also had to tell my mom, stepmom, and my dad, (especially my mom) to stay off the internet when it comes to my AIDS, they turn that little stone into a mountain. So you're not the only one.

@TabooPrincess, YUCK,  my ob/gyn always asks if I want to watch my colposcopy on the camera, and I just say YUCK, but I always peek.

Just remember to stop and smell the flowers along the way.

So no more research on the internet about the hpv or aides. Just looking forward to along and some what healthy life with my daughter and my family. thanks and love to all

I am in the Medical Field.  AND it amazes me what the INTERNET has done with HIV/AIDS.  My husband has done way to much reading on BAD sites and info.  YES. tell them to stay off those sites.  Did you get the results back?

Hi LiveLaugh, except for the low grade dysplasia I got in the letter in the mail, I don't go until June 12Th to see the doctor for it, they didn't seem to worried about it, so I am trying not to stress on it also. Thanks for your reply.

BadBaby,
I think you click on profile, then forum profile, then go down to the signature place and type in there.  That's also where you put sayings at.  I cannot however figure out how some of the people have that chart.

Also I just put an app on my stupid, smart, phone called I Stay Healthy, well ok my caseworker at Dr. office downloaded it for me as I couldn't figure it out.  It seems to be pretty neat, and it's free. I have my counts on it and it automatically puts them into a chart.  I can put my meds in, both AIDS and other ones, it will tell about interactions, and somehow you can list days you miss meds. you can also set an alarm  to remind you of when to take them if you need it.

Hi
I have had my vaginal papsmear come back abnormal years ago and had my cervix frozen which is called a colposcopy and all was good.   They may also burn it and it does the same thing.  It sloughs off the bad tissue and you will have some discharge for days or a week and then you follow up with your md and have papsmears every 6months until you have several that are normal then yearly again.
I am fine and did not have any cancer.  I also had a wart on my cervix and all is fine after the procedure.  Most important thing is not to panic.  It is not the worse thing that can happen.  I am a registered nurse and have hiv for 25 years and have also had breast cancer stage IV and am still living.  You will be fine.
Good Luck and stay calm.

Went to my OBGYN today and had the Colposcopy done and he said that everything looked normal so he took a scraping from the inside of my cervix and now I wait for those results to come back in 4 weeks. My anal appointment is on the 27Th of this month hoping all goes well with that one. Still kinda scared though.

Trying not to stress on things concerning my cervical tests done the other day, I keep telling myself if it comes back and theres cancer then we deal with it, but I am more scared about the anal appointment at the end of the month and what there going to find and what there going to do. I just want all this to be over with so I will have all the answers and know what the treatments will be so i can stop stressing on all this. I'm about to go crazy.
