Father Time sneaked up on me again!
« on: May 17, 2009, 10:27:06 pm »
I was preparing my evaporative cooler for the summer today and managed to do myself an injury.

I was lifting up the cooler to remove the canvass covering it has during the winter when something went wrong.

I felt a kind of rippling in the area of my chest/abdomen where i have been experiencing pain from time to time.

Then, before I could react, there was a sort of snapping feeling and stabbing pain. Now, it hurts to move, hurts to breathe, hurts to cough, etc.

It feels rather like a broken rib, but I doubt that is what it is. I think I just sprained a muscle or pulled a ligament or something.

I'll drop by the doctor's office tomorrow in case they need to know about this latest escapade.

I just installed that cooler last year without incident. But this year, I haven't been able to keep working out like I did last year thanks to may nasty reaction to the statins.

It still amazes me at times how things are interrelated. I take HIV meds that cause or help to cause hyperlipidemia.

I exercise to help combat this and take statins to lower the lipid levels. The statins cause painful side effects (elevated CPKs) and the deterioration of my muscles.

I stop the statins and manage to avoid kidney damage resulting from the elevated CPKs, but also must stop exercising because of the damage the elevated CPKs have done to my body.

So, now, the lack of exercise has left me a 180-pound weakling who can't even lift a swamp cooler without hurting myself.

Of course, last night I was reading a news story in Positively Aware about how HIV accelerates aging, so this latest turn of events couldn't have come at a worse time.

On top of that, my garden isn't anywhere near planted. It is going to have to be a slow but steady week of planting, weeding, etc. probably in the morning, when its still cool.

I guess I had better get my tired old butt back to the gym as well.

(((GENTLE HUGS)))

Mark

Oh dear, Mark.  I hate sharp, stabbing pains.  I hope you didn't do anything that needs attention (that you're not getting). :-*    Please take it easy and let your body heal.
  Hugs,
Betty

Mark...I hope no real damage was done but you do need to consult your Doc..... as has been said.
My two cents: next time get someone to HELP you. Asking for help or realizing that you need help is a big step to take and one which you may have to deal with.
But good luck

warm hugs to our old friend mark.

phyllicia is right.  I'm sure there is some nice young man from your agency (one of your clients ?) looking for part time work.  You need the help, that's for sure, and I can't think of a better person anyone could work for.

(Just to let you know, I'm doing some long-term planning myself.  I'm working on a young buck I met in Hawaii about 9 years ago.  He wants to come live with us.  As soon as he gets out of prison I just might take him up on it.   8) )

Well, one of the heroin addicts I exchange syringes for gave me a wink and a hug the other day - but I just don't know. He is awfully young. ;)

Aside from that, I saw the doctor yesterday (he was in Las Vegas Monday). I have a strained muscle, as I suspected. He said to take it easy for a while and to not do crunches at the gym until I am sure I can do them without making things worse.

I actually feel better. It isn't paining me too much, well, not as much as it was. So, there is hope for the garden this year after all! ;D

I do have about a dozen full-length railroad ties to move, though. Hmmm, maybe a houseboy is in order.

HUGS,

Mark

Glad it's not anything too serious honey.   Take care of yourself.....

we ain't as young as we used to be (by any STRETCH of the imagination!).   It's funny, in my mind sometimes I still feel 30-ish.   Then I glance in the mirror.....

mucho hugs,

Mark,

Glad to hear that your doing better !! I've discovered as I am getting older, that its's the ankles, that seem to give me the most  problem. They just don't have the strength for support, that they used to... And I will feel and hear the Ripping /stretching sensation. I am ever so careful these days ! One mistep, and I know somethings going to happen.

Take care- Ray
