Precum on herpes sore - PLEASE HELP!
« on: January 30, 2012, 11:32:30 pm »
I was involved in mutual masterbation with another man and he touched himself and then gave me a handjob. I was having a herpes outbreak and had small sores below the head of my penis. While I was touching him I noticed a great deal of precum. I am concerned that he may have got his precum on my herpes sores after he touched himself and then touched me. Am I at risk? Please answer!

You never had an exposure from masturbation. HIV is unable to reproduce outside its living host (unlike many bacteria or fungi, which may do so under suitable conditions), except under laboratory conditions; therefore, it does not spread or maintain infectiousness outside its host.

Thank you so much for the quick response. I have read many of your responses and I am impressed with your knowledge. I have read over and over that a herpes sore increases the possibly of HIV transmission. I understand now that only pertains to insertive anal or vaginal sex correct? Are there still no reported cases of HIV transmittion from hand-to-genital contact?

You are correct. In the thirty plus years of monitoring HIV, even through the dark early years when scientists were guessing as to transmission theory, not a single person has EVER even been INVESTIGATED, let alone DOCUMENTED as getting HIV from hand-to-genital contact.

You will not make history and single-handedly rewrite the history of the HIV pandemic by being a first to be infected in this manner.

"Many people, especially in the gay community, turn to oral sex as a safer alternative in the age of AIDS. And with HIV rates rising, people need to remember that oral sex is safer sex. It's a reasonable alternative."

Gopher,

I agree with JK and Rodney. You are conclusively hiv negative. I have one thing to add though - you should be avoiding sexual contact when you have an active herpes outbreak. Please keep your herpes to yourself. There is a med called acyclovir that can be taken daily to prevent outbreaks, which will not only make life easier for you, but it will also protect your sexual partners. Talk to your doctor about it - it is available as a generic so the cost should not be prohibitive.

While you're here, I'll give you my usual spiel. Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year (twice is better) and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Protected sex during herpes outbreak
« Reply #6 on: July 12, 2014, 12:49:17 pm »
I am very worried - I had protected vaginal sex and realized afterward that I had a small herpes lesion on my groin that was not covered by the condom. I had no precursor symptoms otherwise I would never of had the encounter as I would never want to put anyone at risk of HSV2. I am however concerned about HIV transmission because vaginal fluids very likey came in contact with the exposed lesion. Should I be concerned? I am also worried that due to my lack of warning symptoms that I should never have sex again - protected or not. I never want to pass my herpes to anyone. Please help.

Thank you so much for the information so just to clarify a herpes sore is only an infectious portal if unprotected and inserted into another person. An unprotected sore just simply in contact with vaginal fluids outside of the body is not an Hiv risk.

Also I am very concerned about future relations as I did not have symptoms. I certainly never want to pass the HSV2 as my outbreak is in an area that the condom doesn't cover. Not sure what to do.

Thank you for the service you provide
