In the ten minutes that Lieberman spoke, and McCain spoke,  I wonder how many uninsured Americans had to use the emergency room. So, Mr McCain,  time is relevant. Lets speed it up, stop draggin your heals.

There's not a thing wrong with him being a comedian... we did survive with an actor for a previous president and all.  Hell, at least he's honest about his being a comedian.

The real joke was when Sen. Bernie Sander (R-OK) obstructed progress for almost 3 hours on the debate of healthcare reform by breaking senate tradition and requiring the reading of a 767 page proposal, and then left the senate floor.

10 minutes,??? What about the 4 year wait for health care reform to kick in after its passed? I heard a blurb on msnbc yesterday about the reform not kicking in for 4 years after its passed. Since then Ive been googling and trying to find information on this but have only found a few blurbs in papers and publcations that are not familiar to me and thus I cannot determine their veracity, such as..

http://www.azstarnet.com/sn/health/319326

http://www.phawker.com/2009/11/20/worth-repeating-the-four-year-wait-for-health-care-reform-to-kick-in-is-political-suicide/

and here's a mainstream, CBS:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/07/24/politics/main5185842.shtml

Yes, i know the Bill is posted online but I got through about 1 page of it before my eyes crossed and my brain locked up.

Does anyone have any concrete information on this? If so please help me understand this.

Will the only way to "understand" whats being proposed is to read the "executive summaries" posted by most  congressmen's office.... a look at the web site of your local rep may have what you need,  My local is very good at keeping "proposal summaries" as well as the actual documents available...   Ralph Hall.....I requested this type of info from the office of Ralph Hall and actually got a call from one of his staff guys that helped me look for what I was asking......  try it.   it can be very tough reading since most of it is done by lawyers trying to cover their ass....

There's a bill that's gone through the House and one on its way in the Senate.

Since the House bill is "cooked" its easier to find info on it.  But it is pretty complex and even the summaries are enormous.

Here's a list of the provisions that would take place quickly under the House bill

And a more general summary of the Bill is here.  It shows what kicks in which year:

That was Senator Coburn from OK. Bernie Sanders is an Independent Senator from Vermont who was furious about this delaying tactic.

Yep, it's a shame that a college educated, family man, best selling author, elected to the Senate by the people of Minnesota hasn't been quite as successful as you Rod. You're right, he's the joker.

Thanks for finding that.  I heard this mentioned on Rachel's show last night.

Certainly shows the hypocrisy of John McCain.

I will always come to old Al's defence. As one who listened to Al's radio show daily on AirAmerica, I soon realized he was 1st: a smart politician with in site, and 2nd: a comedian. Too many people get those facts reversed. Too many underestimate old Al. He is fast becoming the liberals hero (and a hero of the working American class too, actually). The good ole boy pro business anti government anti middle class congressmen (and women) have been taken back and a bit blind sided by Al, since they too expected just a comedian to join their ranks. Al Franken is much beyond that.
He is more of a Ted Kennedy-ish politician, as time will show.

As to Mr Lieberman vs old Al,  Al has had just quite enough of this blowhard Mr Lieberman, and so has the other democrats. Al was not going to take it any longer. And besides, what is wrong with something new in the senate... sticking to the rules. The senate rules state when you're 10 minutes is up, its up. Period.
As you could tell, and should make note of, that is exactly how Al looked at this situation. To the wise, that in itself is a small example of the political skills old Al possesses. Believe me, Al pays attention to the details.

I love to see Senator Al Franken underestimated, because more and more as time passes you will see that "deer in the headlights" effect on the faces of those in congress that would seek to destroy the American middle class. Yeah, just keep calling Al a comic and SNL has-been. Keep writting him off as an effective legislator. Where McCain displayed his ignorance of Al's abilities, was in McCain's comment that Al was "new" to the process. Suggesting Al was inexperienced and out of step. Well... Al has more smarts and political savvy then McCain could ever hope to posses. But, again, watching members of the process learn that the hard way is what I am personally enjoying very much!!! Like Ted Kennedy, Al is headed for senate stardom and will become the hero of Minnesotans as well as democrats every where.

As to the healthcare bill... Yes its pretty bad as it stands right now, but me thinkest the best is yet to come in following years. They have given up on that "one giant leap" in reform, as Howard Dean wanted, and realized just getting your foot in the door is in itself a major victory. After this watered down bill soon passes, the wheels will begin turning to head this reform to its inevitable conclusion, non profit healthcare in America. They will be passing the first step toward that goal soon, in the senate.
