Welcome to Do I Have HIV?

Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

slight cut on finger

Hello,
I was tested on July 3rd 2006, and my last unprotected encounter was on march 6th, which is 16.5 weeks since then. I can happily say I was negative, should I get tested at six months? Can I confidently feel I am negative despite the information which says I should get tested at 6 months aswell? please help

The CDC has always been conservative about this issue and yet sometime ago they changed their accepted testing point for a definitive result to 13 weeks. Their only exceptions to that are those who are IV drug users or someone who has a severely depleted immune system due to cancer treatment or similar situations. 

As long as you haven't had any risky incidents since the one for which you tested I would say you can relax and enjoy having reliably tested negative. You are HIV negative. Period. End of story.

In the future keep those condoms handy when you have intercourse and use one everytime so you don't have to live through this anxiety again.

Does diabetes type 2 count, as a severly depleted immune system, as I have been told diabetics are succeptable to infection

Dear All,
- I tested through my Dr at the hospital @13 weeks after exposure, and @ 17 weeks with the home access brand test, thankfully both were negative. how reliable is the home test, that is recommended by the FDA?

I met a girl at a bar, and we went back to my place, we had some heavy kissing, and I fingered her, We did not have sex, as we did not have protection, but we were both naked, and I might have touched myself after fingering her, , could I be infected with HIV?

Baz, it's very good to read that you held off of having intercourse because you didn't have a condom.

Nothing you did -- fingering, kissing, etc., put you at risk for HIV transmission. The only confirmed risks for sexual transmission of HIV are unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse. As long as you consistently use condoms for those activities you will be well protected. No exceptions.

There's no need for testing nor for further concern on your part about HIV in relation to this incident.

Dear All,
i do not really want to waste time, but i have a question for my own peace of mind. I had sex with a escort girl last week. we used a condom throughout the event. I however had a slight paper cut on my index finger, it had bled earlier in the day, but was closed up. the question is, when i touched my penis when inserting into the vagina, is there possibility for infection?or when holdong my penis afterwards?

No, fingering, even with a cut, or getting vaginal fluids on a cut, are not risks for hiv infection.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!!! Read through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use them correctly and with confidence.
