The worry continues, please help
« on: August 30, 2014, 09:17:44 am »
Good morning!

So 5 weeks ago, I met up with a man.  He masturbated me with his saliva and I tried to recieve anal for the first time.  A condom was used, but this condom was in a shoebox in my car for about a month before use.  It did not appear to break. Also, he only partially/barely penetrated me because once I felt pain I told him we had to stop.  I would say it was only 5 or so seconds of this "penetration".

4 weeks ago I was in an accident, so I have been going I the doctor for some brain trauma we expect occurred. A concussion basically, so I've been dealing with headaches and doctor visits.

I was so worried about my exposure that I had been calling my states HIV hotline and they were very helpful. One hotliner spoke to me several times and got to know my concerns and situation well. He said, to calm my nerves, that I could test at 4 weeks. So while on the phone with him, I did an Oraquick at 31 days and it was negative. He said I really didn't have anything to worry about to begin with and that he wouldn't recommend testing again, just for peace of mind.

But now, at 5 weeks, there is a swollen something, bump or lump, on the back of my neck that concerns me.

I have decided to remain abstinent until I am with a monogamous partner.

Should I be concerned over anything I described above?  Thanks!

HIV is sexually transmitted from unprotected anal and vaginal sex ... you used a condom for anal sex and since it did not break you did not have a risk . An intact condom means so HIV . The masturbation with saliva is not a risk, saliva is not infectious for HIV and actually has property's that damage HIV rendering it unable to infect ... and then there is the fact that masturbation with saliva is not among the risk factors for HIV .

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI.Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Although you did not have a risk and do not need to test for this specific incident , anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Thank you for such a speedy response!

I know you cannot go by symptoms for HIV, but anything that I believe is a symptom, really isn't, because it sounds like I never contracted it to begin with?

The man I met with also said he was negative and that he tested every 3 months, he said last test was July 2nd.

Lube was not used, but like I said, I did not notice any breakage.  I know that condoms shouldn't be kept in cars, but the heat would only weaken the condom and make it easier to break correct? It wouldn't create some super thin, permeable material that the disease could go through?

And the brevity of my encounter would only help my cause, right?

Do you recommend testing from this one encounter?

Thanks so much!

So I should be confident about my negative status? Are my concerns warranted?
I was hoping for a more personal response..

You didn't have a risk for HIV . HIV is sexually transmitted from from unprotected anal and vaginal sex ... you had protected sex so stop worrying . Sorry my advise is not as exciting or personal as you would like but if you look on the bright side you will see that my advice is sound and you can trust in it ... it also means you can move on and enjoy your day/evening and put this fear aside . This is my own personal advise just for you and you only ... now isn't that special .
