Unsure about my situation

Hello,

Last week, I had intercourse with another man - my first homosexual experience, as a matter of fact. I didn't know him, nor his status.

I was the insertive partner and used a condom. However, it slipped off my penis when the guy got up right after ejaculation (he was riding me).

The condom was hanging out from his anus and had semen inside of it. Can this be counted as an exposure?

I thought about it, read articles online, considered PEP, but then again I really didn't think it would be wise to subject my body to the medication considering the odds.

However, this is still in my thoughts and is a source of concern.

Look if it was just slipping out whilst withdrawing and nothing else then no HIV concern for you as the insertive partner. Do hold the base of the condom next time to prevent this from happening.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid HIV infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions.  Consider starting PrEP as an additional layer of HIV prevention going forward.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as safe in terms of HIV might still pose a risk for transmission of other far easier to acquire STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also, note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

Thanks for the quick answer. Yes, that was it, I used the condom all the way through until I withdrew.

I was actually relaxed about it, read some stuff online and similar situations saying that it was a no-risk situation.

Nevertheless, I'm feeling a bit unwell since yesterday, sore throat and some other flu-like symptoms, so the possibility jumped back on my mind.

If you are feeling unwell simply see your doctor and treat whatever is making you sick.

As with regards to HIV, if this was your only sexual encounter then put it behind you.  Use condoms for any intercourse no exceptions, test like every sexually active adult should at least yearly out of routine for STI's & HIV. Consider starting PrEP as an additional layer of HIV prevention going forward.
