I gave the Pot a nice little stir in the old forums when I posted links to sex offender registries after a rather henious local crime got National attention ( Carlie Bruschea ) and in the wake of the Jessica Lunsford case this National registry has been started.. Its alot more streamlined than other sex offender databases Ive seen and its nationwide so you only have to navigate one site.. just enter your city and ZIP, or if you really dare, your street. Youll get a map with red and blue dots all over it, click on the dot to see the file and info about the offender. If you click the "get Additional Info' button, youre redirected to an online background check service that charges a fee, but hey, they have to pay the bills somehow. Overall the info provided is plenty complete..

About 14 sex offenders within 5 miles of me here, the majority of them crimes against children.

I really like the way they consolidated all of the local databases into one big national registry that can be searched down to the street and zip, it used to be a bit of a chore to even Find the local registry, and they were sometimes fairly cumbersome to navigate, they seem to have solved alot of the hangups the old local registries had, now Im off to check all of my friends addresses, wont that be a nice email to send someone...

Matty the Damned loves all this "stranger-danger" rubbish. Given that a child is far more likely to be molested by a heterosexual male relative than a total stranger, he suspects that these sites have more to do with making law and order obsessed prudish types feel important than protecting our nubile youth.

As a child I can remember no-necked, mustachioed police types coming to my school and warning us about the risks of lone predatory males. I can remember thinking at the time that it was all rather obvious. I mean, I knew that that 55 year old loner at the bottom of the hill, whose chihuahua only ever needed to take a shit when delectable young children were coming home from school was to be avoided.

He was weird. Kids don't like weird. They tend to avoid it. Don't believe me? Remember how you were treated at school? That's right MtD is, as usual, spot-on.

If indeed there has been, in recent years, a sudden rise in the number of kiddies introduced to the pleasures of the flesh by unwashed, balding Aspergers Syndrome males living alone in community housing bed-sits, then frankly the next generation are clearly so dumb as to deserve being written off now.

I don't really like those websites because unless you get the full extent of what they did, you can't really judge by yourself. I have a very good friend who is going to be a "sex offender" all his life because he had consensual sex with a 17yo when he was 19. The 17yo went to court to testify that he wanted the relation, etc etc you know the drill..

Given how information circulates and seeing all those laptops stolen from government officials I wouldn't be surprised if there is one day a site like this showing my name and address because I'm hiv+. I guess i'll know that when someone spits on me in the street for no particular reason.

although Id still prefer to know whether or not the guy down the street was just paroled for rape and sodomy ...

and Aupoint' dont feel too bad, I found an 'acquaintance' from Houston who was convicted of Child Sexual Assault and Indecency with a Child.. its so hard to find a dealer with any moral fiber.

He's not a dealer actually... he's a friend. The same friend, incidentially, who dropped my house univited.

I punched in my Zip cide, and it showed 90 registered offenders. I believe that has increased since the last time I checked.

In the Uk, the information on this kind of thing is still a little sporadic as far as I know. There have been attempts to make this information available, but I agree, it can be a dangerous thing, especially as it may not always be accurate.
Pity the poor guy who had his address highlighted on one site....he was a PAEDEATRICIAN!

From what I can tell... the most common ones seem to be... rape, or attempted rape, and "carnal knowledge of a child 15 to 17 years of age."

They do have the date of offense on there.

The majority of the guys were convicted of diddling a 17 year old when they were 22.

Thank God they're strengthening Uhmurrica's moral fiber.

Of course... there are a couple guys who seemed to have diddled the 17 year old skittle when they were over 30. Hmm.
