google has failed me  :'(
I can't find a report that discusses what meds could be delivered this way.

A patch that worked for 7 days would be quite awesome on many levels - transportation, costs perhaps, and of course application - slap one on every Monday morning and go live your life the rest of the week. ;D

You would need an entire regimen in one patch for this to be worth it.  I doubt (at least I hope) they wouldnt do just one med in a patch.  Otherwise you would either have 3-4 patches on at a time or still have to take some pills making this whole thing rather pointless.

I would be worried about having the efficacy of the damn thing effected when I showered.  I mean would you take it off, hope it remains sticky, then slap it back on?  A week almost seems like too much for a patch.

Maybe a suppository would be preferable?

transdermal patches have been in use since 79. there are already many patches in use with various medications that stand up to showering and swimming (although some do recommend covering up with a piece of saran wrap); and several that last as long as a week.

You would need an entire regimen in one patch for this to be worth it.
definitely!

We used played a game on a ward I previously work on......Patch Lotto!

Here's how to play...... If a patient is admitted from a nursing home and was on transdermal patch medication, how many patches would we find?  The winner was a 90 something year old gentleman with 5 nitroglycerine patches >:(  This results from nurses not bothering to remove the old patch before applying the new one.

The most common drugs administered by transdermal patch are:  Nicotine, Nitroglycerine, Fentanyl and Estrogen

For more info on transdermal patches try:

I'm lost on this. What's the relationship between transdermal patches and transportation?

Maybe it's just me but IMHO patches are not all they are cracked up to be. I wore the Androderm patch for a year or so, and I hated it. My skin was always irritated, It always left a red outline when I removed the patch, also would leave a dirt outline, it had to be reapplied on a different part of the body each application, It was a horrendous beige color, it itched, and it made going shirtless impossible (my vainness).

My mother wears the Fentanyl patch, and granted it is clear in color but it is still noticable, it irritates her skin, and it starts losing its adhesive properties on the 3rd day. blah blah blah.

I'd probably try it, but I couldnt see myself staying with it very long.

and lastly, I like popping pills.

transportation costs for one thing. A pack of 4 patches (lasting one month) would cost less to transport to a pharmacy/ASO/client than bottles upon bottles of pills to cover that month of HAART.

then basic transportation from one place to the next - a client would have fewer "meds" (the patches instead of pill bottles) to carry around, taking up less space, with fewer temperature and eating restrictions
