AM "THANKSGIVING"
« on: November 12, 2006, 09:42:04 pm »
To be thankful ??  To be in acceptance??  I am sure we all have something no matter the circumstances, to be thankful for..  At times these thoughts escape me and never stay long.   I hope, in time, the things that I am and should be thankful for, will become clearer..  What are you thankful for in spite of hiv/aids being in your lives?

ThanksGiving is just around the corner..

Love Eric & William

I am thankful for a supporting husband and family. Health insurance. Al Gore for giving us the Internet so I can obsess on-line over HIV. AIDSmeds.com. My job. The Democrats retaking congress. Arizona rejecting an anti-gay marriage ammendment. Finally, for my penis still working (as do most parts of my body).

I'm thankful for family and friends -- in particular my partner of 16 yrs who continues to stand by me through this ordeal.  I'm thankful for being able to watch my 3 grandchildren grow up --- even if I only see them 2 or 3 times a year, as the live in San Diego.  I am thankful for having gotten through the dark times of a year ago, so that I can, in fact, see how thankful I am for my live -- the good, the bad and the ugly.

Now you've gone and made me emotional, just before I need to go to sleep....   Here's hoping the Sustiva and the cheeseburger I just ate give me that wonderful "drunk" feeling that is sure to put me to sleep.    ;)

Hugs to all,
Mike

P.S.  Oh yeah -- I can NOT forget this one.....  I'm so thankful for the good Health Insurance I have!!

Tonight, I'm thankful for you Eric, and for all my AIDSmeds friends who enrich my life.    During the 'dark years' I started keeping a gratitude diary.   This post inspired me to pull out the 1996 and 1997 volumes and read some entries.   It is painful, but sometimes I think, necessary.

Some examples of things I was thankful for then, from my diary:

for being able to reduce the amount of I.V. drugs I have to take
for being able to sit in the chair most of the day today
for Project Open Hand delivering my food each day
for being able to get dressed and go out to eat
for my doctors, nurses, caseworker, and volunteers who help me
and from January 1997: for living to see another year
-------------------------------------------------
My life is so different now than it was then.   I never thought I would live this long.   I have so much to be grateful for, mainly for just being able to get up, get out and function in the world.   That is something I never ever take for granted, and I don't think anyone does who has ever had that ability put in jeopardy.   Some days, I do need a "jolt of gratitude".   I tell you, it is the only thing that keeps me going sometimes.   Gratitude and hope.

Thanks Eric.

Love,
Alan

First off Eric i've got to say that picture nearly made me vomit it was that cheesy!  But I understand the sentiment of this thread.  I've got a lot more to be thankful for than large parts of the world and I never forget that.   A roof over my head, a loving family and friends and enough money to live relatively comfortably for starters.

Oh I know Thanksgiving is not for everybody..  Just the "kick off" to the holiday season.  For me, Thanksgiving is when they start spinning the chairs on the mountain and a time to always have the fireplace burning...

A year ago I was 2 months into my hiv diagnosis.   It was the darkest time of my life even with many blessings keeping me afloat.   Never in my life did I think I would actually contemplate suicide seriously as I did last year this time.  Oh, I had it all figured out 3 different ways.   Well that time has past and I am thankful for my Husband William for holding me up those first two terrible months.   Then finding Dr. Ben the most caring, compassionate, doctor I have ever met.   I must have spent six or seven hours of his time on his cell phone during those first few months.  He listened and turned things around for me ever so slowly and at my speed.  For this, I am thankful.

I swore I would listen only to Dr. Ben, but around Christmas I ventured out into the net and found this place..  Overwhelming at first.  Stark realities of living with HIV made me have to run to catch up trying to find what all of you had found.   AM is my support and the reason I feel marginally ok about whats going on with me.    Sanity has been a thing I am slowly getting back (alittle slower than my cd4 count).   I see lives continuing on about the every day things here in these threads, and so, if you can do it, then I can as well..   I am blessed to find all of you.. For this, I am thankful.

I am blessed to have my God in my life,  my husband William,  a family here at AM,  Dr. Ben,  both sets of parents who love us even with hiv, health care,  friends who love us even with hiv,  my work that I love and the mountains I play in.... At 42 years old,  I am thankful.   I am thankful.............

Hmmm...well this is the first holiday season in 9 years that I will be alone...I kind of have been avoiding Thanksgiving because I won't be with family...but enough of that...what a downer, and thats not me!

So, what am I thankful for?

1.) My health...albeit it has been a bit flakey lately, but I am still here!
2.) You all...I am so lucky and blessed to have each of you in my life, cyber life and what not.
3.) My family...for their support and love.
4.) That I have a job...
5.) Insurance...'nuff said!
6.) My friends...especially my friend Shane, with out whom, I would be lost today!

I think that tops it right now...I love you all!

Eric, first of all, I am thankful to have heard you on the phone. What a calming, suething voice you have.

I am thankful for "exisiting" and "breathing".
I would be even more thankful if I could start to "live" again, "feel" again, "hope" again.

I am thankfullfor having Dan in my life. Although my acute depression leaves me "froozen in heart and speech" lately, he continues to show his love to me. Therefore I say "thank you Dan".

As many others, I never expected to see the year 2000.
Thank you to all who have survived with me.
Thank you to all of you I have got to know on here.
Believe me, no drama intended, but without all of you I would be nothing than a memory today...

* Making through the past 6 months without jumping in front of a bus
* My family, even though they have no idea what I am going through
* Health insurance
* My doctor, who is kind, does not judge and is truly convinced that there is a great future for all of us here

Well, I am one who always tries to count her blessings no matter how small. Being infected has pretty much put an end to my biological family even though we were dysfunctional even before I became infected. It just kinda put a nail in the coffin, so to speak. I am thankful for having a new family both online and off.

I am thankful for my health, even though some rough things has happened to me like losing a third of my hearing in both ears, but I still wake up each morning. I know there are those out there going through much more than me. I am thankful for my doctors who take very good care of me despite myself.

I am grateful for my car, it may be a classic but it gets me where I have to go and has withstood one accident. She's my blue bitch and I love her so.

I am grateful for all of you because all of you listen to my silly questions and accept me for being a newbie which is how I feel because a lot of this is new to me even though I have been infected for 9yrs. May the  Goddess bless you all.

I'm thankful Pilgrims didn't eat wild cat on ThanksGiving. The thought of having to eat pussy at this time every year would make me ill.

There is so much to be thankful for, that it is easier for me just to say thanks.

Eric, I want to add one more:

I am so thankful for Jan.   She has blessed my life so richly since I met her here in the forums.   She is a beautiful, intelligent, sensitive, loving lady who has a heart as big as all outdoors.   She's going through a rough spot right now, so everyone please include her especially in your thoughts and prayers.
She loves this forum and all the people here so much.

Thanks, and HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYBODY!

I'm thankful Pilgrims didn't eat wild cat on ThanksGiving. The thought of having to eat pussy at this time every year would make me ill.

There is so much to be thankful for, that it is easier for me just to say thanks.

you SLAY me honey!  :D

Hi all

We don't celebrate Thanks giving here in this part of the world but that's doesn't mean we have nothing to be thankful for.

I'm thankful for my family, my six kids, my 9 grandkids and a husband who has supported me from the very beginning.

I'm thankful I found this place and the friends I have found here along with the support they have given me for the last 3.5 years.

I'm thankful for the dream that Scooter had that brought a lot of us together.

I'm thankful that Gecko was able to spend this last days with us and was able to tell us there was nothing to fear.

I'm thankful for the beauty that surrounds me every day, both here on the forums and at home

I'm thanful I have a sense of humour otherwise I would be slapping Rod upside the head... :D

I know some of you will be going through a hard time but I hope over all you  have a good thanks giving holiday..there is always something in the world to be thankful for

Alan I love you and who knows maybe one day I will get to spend Thanksgiving with you.

Love and hugs to everyone on this thanksgiving holiday.

Hugs
Jan :-*

May the blessings of each day Be the blessings you need most.

I’m still here and healthy enough to enjoy it.

What more would any one-person need to be thankful for?  ???

also wanted to add: I am very thankful I live in the U.S.A.

Oh and that also!

I’m thankful for the fact that my parents came to this country to make a new start in life. Which makes me and my sibling’s first generation Americans.

I realized again today that my pets are healthy, happy and well-behaved - Another reason to be thankful  :) Just thought I'd sneak that in before lunch
