My 18 year old nephew came out. He wanted to bring his new boyfriend to thanksgiving, but the boyfriend chickened out. A few of us knew he “might be” about a year ago when his mother found some gay stuff on his pc. She ask if he thought he was gay and he said no, just looking at some stuff on the net. Well, I told her he was probably gay, just not ready to announce it. His brother is younger a few years and a big high school football jock. His name is in the papers constantly during high school football season and he’s being scouted by the colleges. My nephew is worried how his brother will react to him coming out. Also, his dad.
I’m proud of him, in that he wants to come out to the family and not deny it or play games (like I did). My sister gives me credit for his being at ease with coming out. They all know I am, my partner, and treat us like a married couple.
He’s kinda into Goth and use to dye his blond hair black. But he’s back to blond the past year. And I haven’t met his new bo, but am told he’s cute as a button.
I’ve been kidding my sister and niece about getting him his free toaster. Its an Ellen joke. No one gets it, till I explain. Then theres my religious fanatic Fundie dad who still is waiting for me to get married to some chick. Some parents never give up hope. I’m so glad my nephews mother is totally open and will no doubt be on his side, if sides develop.
He was always a little like me when he was younger. Hung around with the “outcast” different kids in school, and picked on by others.
After the Columbine high school thing, when he was in elementary school, he was kicked out for 3 days when they found a “hit list” in his locker. A list of kids that were mean to him. Naturally, it wasn’t any “hit” list, but back then the schools went nutz over-reacting. The school principal that kicked him out was a real nut case herself. He was on the local TV news with his mother saying how ignorant the school facility was for over reacting to a little kids list of mean class mates. It was all so retarded.
I never did get my free toaster… yet.
