Gay Pride Month
« on: June 03, 2009, 08:00:59 am »
We're having our Gay Pride this weekend and talk about 'old school',  Trinere is going to perform live!  Wow! I used to love her music back in the 80's - "They're Playing Our Song", "I'll Be All You Ever Need", "How Can We Be Wrong" and my personal favorite, "Can't Stop The Beat".  It's going to be an 80's dance party! There's also going to be a Street Festival and a Foam Party!

80's music, wet and slippery men....a dream come true.  :P

So what kind of celebrations are going on other cities?

The official Austin Pride kickoff party is tomorrow night at the Paramount Theatre--The Majestic Party, with a screening of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, followed by a costume contest and dance party with DJs.  We have VIP tickets for that, but will probably skip the Saturday Pride Festival and the parade later.  The festival is usually sweltering and the parade is at night and just not what I would expect for a  Blue city our size.  I'll give it a few more years.

Last year Lexington replaced a long runing picnic with their first festival. It was at the old Courthouse complete with a Drag Show on the Courthouse Steps ! This year they'll close a street and have a stage. A group marches in the regular 4th of July parade every year handing out little rainbow flags. Louisville's third Pride Parade ends Friday night at the Belvedere and the fourth (or fifth or so ) weekend long festival. Saturday at 11:45AM a Gay Christian speaker, at some point the Indigo Girls.  No activities planned for Hazard, Ky. There should be something in Bloomington, In. but there's not. It's fairly gay all the time though.

I went to Albuquerque Pride yesterday. The parade was fun, lots of political figures, including the mayor and the lieutenant governor.(Future governor).

The festival was again quite nice. Lots of music, booths, dancing, music and a display of some of the local artists. There were several pieces I liked, but I don't have that kind of bankroll.

It was fun, overall. I marched in the parade, first time I've done that in many a year. Amazingly, I wasn't all that tuckered out by it, it was only three or four miles.

It was nice to see the younger crowd there. Gives me hope for the future.

All in all, a very fun, prideful day.

HUGS,

Mark

I didn't really boycott.  I just ended up not being motivated to get out of the house and schlep up there, that's all.  I think I overdosed on these events in my 20's/early 30's anyway.  In NYC it was feasible to go to three separate Pride events during the month of June.  The large one in Manhattan, and then the separate smaller events in Queens and Brooklyn which are on different weekends.  Basically it was an entire month of wardrobe selection, alcohol, drugs and lots and lots of sex, with the accompanying large coordination to maintain my own entourage.
