We're looking for HIV+ folks to participate in online (sessions) conducted by the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of California San Francisco.

We have permission from the POZ moderators to post this thread and will keep members up-to-date on the survey progress and results.

Participants may be eligible if they are:
  • HIV+
    Over 18 old
    Speak English
    Interested in improving their moods
Have daily access to the internet
Have a mobile phone that can send and receive text messages or have other mobile access to the internet.

Participation includes 5 online (sessions) of either daily emotion reporting or skills-building exercises aimed at helping people with HIV better cope with the disease and improve their mood through stress reduction.

Participants will be compensated $106 for participation in 5 online (sessions).

This study is being conducted by UCSF/Osher Center for Integrative Medicine. Please contact us at http://tiny.ucsf.edu/zw7FZz to find out more and see if you’re eligible.

Thank you,

Wasn't able to send a PM but I think some of the questions maybe OK to ask here, if not mods please edit my post, thanks:

What type of information is needed and given in the study?  Do the participants remain anonymous?  Is their information sold to other websites?  Is it 106$ per test or for the entire testing period?

Participants will need to have daily access to the internet and a cell phone that can receive text messages. Participants must be over 18 years old and HIV positive. The University's staff will keep the necessary identity information of the participant but any published materials or research that is shared among educational institutes will be anonymous.

Participants will be asked questions daily via the internet and they will receive a series of texts for a short period of time.

Participants can earn up to $106. Participation dictates potential pay.

--------------------------------------------

I have been in the study for weeks now and am now doing a short lesson plan everyday ... it only takes a few minutes to get through . I rather like the results ... after a few weeks into one part of the study you can keep track of your mood at different times of the day to see how you are doing .

I did the online process several weeks ago and it indicated that I qualified for the study.  Was supposed to be contacted via cell phone, but has never happened.

Hi all!

Zack and Greg. I've been trying to contact you folks, but perhaps my emails are going into your junk folder. I'd been having trouble logging onto this site, but Jeff helped me out again, so now I can read that you're saying we haven't contacted you. I sent you both emails again today and hope to hear from you. Once you completed the 'online screener' I need to have about a five minute call with you to finish the process and then can get you into the study. We want YOU!!! :)

look for an email coming from byname@ocim.ucsf.edu.

Thanks! I'll keep watching this forum now as well.

thanks for being patient!!

I just finished the study and had my final interview with Paul . I am really impressed with this study and how well its designed . I learned a few skills from doing the exercises and plan on using the skills and going back to the site on my own every week .

Paul mentioned that there is room for others to enroll so if you are interested contact him using the link at the top of the page .

I started the study a few days ago.  Lordy, I hope they don't think I'm a complete moron.  My vision issues led to issues with not being able to log in with the credentials they provided.  A lower case l and a capital I look almost identical to my vision impaired eyes.  :)

Been doing the daily surveys and am anxious to see how it turns out.  It really does not take that much time so I hope others consider assisting in the research.  Who knows, it might be of great beneficial use to others in the future.

I have seen more than a few studies in my time but this one stands out from the others . I think the study could benefit people living with HIV ... its a great tool to sort out how and why you feel and react to the stresses of everyday life and channel them into a healthy direction  .

Just did the survey but I don't qualify for this study, but I just completed UCSD 'Engagement and Retention in care for HIV' (which I believe is connected to Osher).

Thank you all! We have completed enrollment and cannot accept any new enrollees. This is a pilot study and it is hoped that we'll roll it out in a larger format in the future - perhaps a year away. If that happens, we'll be sure to post it on this site.

You've all been wonderful and patient.

Thank you,
