We get 1 or 2 a year in our county, but mostly smaller ones. We are under the gun tonight though from SA all the way up to Dallas and into OK:(

The bedrock is about 10 -20 feet down so no basements here. Luckily we dont see many F5's so we can wait them out in a closet, or a batthub,

LOL ... I think the link I gave was a big fail . I was just looking at the data and it doesn't seem right . I know the statistics for my state seem accurate but not sure about the rest .

I'm very disappointed that the two Republican senators from Oklahoma that voted against Hurricane Sandy relief already have their greedy hands out less than 24 hours after this tornado damage.

Bug; I thought the same thing - there is a description of how they calculate the risk factor which includes:

"dividing the square mileage of each state against the frequency of death, injury, number of tornadoes, and cost of damages for each state. We then rank each State by these individual categories. We then add the total of each State's individual rankings and divided by the number of factors (four)". 

So a relatively small dense state that has had a few tornadoes between 1950 and 1995 would end up with a higher ranking.  I don't think I agree with the analytical method.

Here is a map and chart of Tornados in the US.  Gives a pretty good idea where it's the most dangerous and possibly explains that odd Massachusetts reference (its from 1953). 

The map shows that what is considered "tornado alley" has expanded to cover a larger area than traditionally thought of.
