i lost a dear friend today
« on: February 19, 2014, 03:03:18 pm »
Keith Schuler passed away today after a long battle with brain cancer. He taught me how to live with a disease, how to face down death, and how to always do for others. Probably the single greatest humanitarian I've ever known. He worked for Mckesson health care. I knew him from our work with Habitat for Humanity. Hundreds of families live in homes he lead the framing on. The world is a little less today. Saturday I'll have to nail his hat to a wall at the bar.

i'm just venting now. over the years, i taught keith to be a better carpenter, but he taught me a better reason to swing a hammer. we are both supervisors for the unskilled volunteers that sponsor builds. he is great with them, me not so much. we worked together in new orleans and went to haiti together for jimmy carters work project following the earthquake. damn, what a lousy day, i've been watching the muppets just because he did a swedish chef that made me laugh. he always called me der meany man bork bork bork. my kids loved him because he would make fun of me

thanks for all your kind words. sometimes i treat the internet like a cry into the dark. its nice to have an echo come back at a time like this

if you're ever in atlanta, stop and have a beer at manuals tavern, raise a toast to the hats nailed up in the back. they are all friends.

Sounds like he was a great guy.  Sorry for your loss.

That's an interesting tradition with the hats.  Never heard of that before.

Glad to see you posting, just read about your tumultuous weekend. I hope this means your feeling better. My dad had many of the things you're going through, and I saw how hard it was for him. :o

So sending you prayers, and well wishes!

Heidi
