Can someone tell me?????
« on: September 29, 2006, 02:22:52 pm »
My 9 year old daughter has broken out in a weird rash.  I took her to the doctor who seems to think it is nothing serious, pityitis rosea or something.  Anyway he gave me a cream to put on her and when I came home I saw it says to let your doctor know if you have a suppressed immune system.  Should I be concerned since I will have to apply this to her or am I being silly?  :-\

Fran, I am not clear what you are concerned about here. Please clarify.

If you are concerned about your own health, how about putting on latex gloves when you apply the cream to your daughter?

Fran,

It's probably a cortisone based ointment to relieve the inflammation of the rash. There's really no danger to you from using, but you can wash your hands straight after applying it to the little one or, as Andy suggests, wearing latex glvoes and you'll have no problems.

Hello, Sorry your daughter is unwell. Whenever Robert has a rash and I apply cream to it, I just make sure I wash my hands after. but if you are worried about more than just the cream than I wouldn't hesitate to call and ask about it. My doctor answer all kinds of questions I have  and doesn't seem to mind. Good Luck.  Cristy

Fran, you could always have your daughter apply it where she can, and have your husband do the rest... or put on some latex gloves... otherwise, wash your hands after.

I hope she's better soon!

Thanks all for your replies.  Fortunately whatever this is that my daughter has is not contagious but the meds he had prescribed just warned to advise the doctor.  It is just a hydrocortisone but I still was not sure.  Unfortunately for my husband to put it on would have been well uncomfortable for both of them because she has it down on her upper legs and to where she has to pull her pants and panties down.  She gets embarrassed with me doing it none the less if he were to do it.
I actually did not have any latex gloves in the house anymore so I was sort of in a bind.  I actually compromised and used a condom  ??? for the one application until my husband ran to the store to get the gloves.  Well, that was a little awkward.  Luckily she is still young enough not to even realize what it was. ;)
Thanks for all your help and I will just double check with my doc tomorrow.
