Make sure to check your other meds interaction with high fat.  My cholesterol is out of control because of Kaletra so I have to stick to a low fat diet.  I find that as long as I eat a good meal before I take Ziagen I feel just fine.

Hello,

Just curious,...Where did you see it written, to take Ziagen with a high fat meal? I have only seen it written, that it can be taken with or without food. Unless I am missing something ;

http://www.aidsmeds.com/archive/Ziagen_1589.shtml

I take my Epzicom at 8:00pm daily. because I work the 11:00pm to 7:00am shift, my big meal isn't until around 12:30Am.

Ususally after I take my meds,( including Epzicom) I may have some yogurt (light), or maybe some toast on whole wheat bread. But that's it, until my meal at 12:30Am. That meal will usually consists of a salad, soup, and sandwich also, but varies nightly. I try to stay away from high fat.

Take care------Ray

Agreed.  I did Ziagen for about two years and took with or without food of many kinds without an adverse impact.  The lack of fasting/feasting requirements was one of the beauties of the drug.

For a high fat snack that is not so bad for you, why not try a handful of cashews or some other kind of nuts?  High in fat, but not totally off the wall bad - not so high in cholesterol, and they tend to be so filling that you don't have to worry about over-doing it.

When I was taking Mepron, I used to eat peanuts or cashews with it.  They are easy to transport, don't easily go bad, and have enough fat to enable the absorbtion of many meds.

Fat helps with absorbtion of a lot of meds, well not a lot but some.  Things I have found that worked (along with some cashews) was half a peanut butter sandwich, a large rice crispy treat, a milkshake, a meal replacement bar and even Ensure.  In fact, normally I use the rice crispy treat or the peanut butter sandwich if it is time I am nowhere close to having dinner.  It is enough food to prevent illness and enough to get everything absorbed.  I am on Reyetaz, Norvir and Truvada and the PI's (norvir and reyetaz) require food.  Remember, wash those buggers down with lots of water!
