My mother was supposed to drive down today and visit with me for the long weekend - Instead, at 5:00 p.m. yesterday I got a phone call as I was coming from work that mom was being taken by ambulance to the hospital with a possible heart attack.
So, I loaded up a bag and made my way to Ocala - got here about 11:15 last night.
Mom has been admitted - She is getting a bunch of tests done, is in observation, and is currently out of the room having a stress test done.
Me, I am sitting here in the hospital room - at the same hospital where my dad was before he passed away just about 3 years ago (March 16th) and the first time in a hospital since my brother died last May....
Needless to say, this isn't the most comfortable feeling.
But, I am hopeful that all will be well w/ my mother...and glad I was able to be here for her as she was terrified coming to the hospital by herself and given our family's recent history with people going into the hospital....
In other news...
Well - I will be sharing some more positive news soon --- as soon as I get the official okay to do so...
In the meantime, I need to get motivated to do some school work while I am waiting for her to return to the room.
Keep us (particularly my mom who spent Valentine's Day in the hospital) in your thoughts if you would.

Phil,
Sending my thoughts for your mom, as well as you. You guys have been through so much lately. I can only wonder how much all that stress and pain has taken a toll. Wishing her a speedy recovery.
Take care.

Thanks for the support and kind words all...
I'm still here at the hospital with mom -
I stayed the night in the room in a very uncomfortable recliner - so, my muscles (LOL - that is a funny one) are stiff....
We are waiting on the results of yesterday's echocardiogram and stress test....
The hospitaliist says that depending on the cardiologist's interpretation of those, mom will either stay and have more tests / procedures or she will be discharged... So we are doing the waiting game....
Meanwhile, I am trying to get some homework done while mom is sleeping.

Im glad that you are there supporting your mum.Thinking of both of you

Stress test and echocardiogram came back clear...
Her magnesium level is still low - so, they have been giving her that via IV...
They are taking blood right now - if it comes back w/ magnesium at normal, she will be discharged - If not, we stay longer....

so sorry for the problems with Mom.... waiting/sitting in Hospitals is the worst ,always seem to need more of something and dont seem to be in any hurry about getting anything done but your credit card/insurance policy info
last time I was in Hospital took 4 hrs after I was told I could go home till Dr finally signed off the form
hope all test finally are clear and she can go home

Thanks all.
My mother was discharged a few hours ago - We are now at her place and I am making sure she takes it easy (at least for tonight).
Tomorrow I head back to Miami..... A bit tired, but no worse for the wear.. :)
Just glad she is out of the hospital and it seems like it was attributable to low magnesium levels.... they pumped her full of magnesium and she seems to be good to go.
-
Much relieved for the good update ... thanks Phil .

good news .. Phil glad things turned out OK....any follow up needed?? how do you get "low magnesium" ??
Nick

how do you get "low magnesium" ??
Nick
Don't really know how Nick - some people are predisposed to it, or it can be lack of magnesium in the diet... or not sufficient amounts...
Also, women and diabetics are more likely to have it at some point or another.
Mom has to follow up w/ her primary doctor and cardiologist.....
She is going to start eating more almonds (they are high in magnesium) - Low magnesium can cause a host of issues.
She is also going to check w/ doc about taking a magnesium supplement...I am just glad she is out of the hospital - It was quite a scare for both of us and coming on the heals of my brother's death and about 3 years to the time of my dad's passing magnified the situation.
Glad to have support of friends here and family and friends on FB and via phone.

Glad she's out of the hospital and doing better. I've also never heard of low magnesium, but I imagine it would be like any low level of mineral...I always run low sodium and have had to have sodium drip IV's in the past. I hope she is able to keep on top of it.
