A Message to the Forums Folks...kinda on behalf of Ric Wilke
« on: November 04, 2007, 02:14:06 pm »
Dear Ladies and Gents,

Here's the deal:  I had a bit of discussion last night with Ric Wilke based on some of the posts he has made recently.  He initiated this exchange based on a post I made in one of the currently prickly Gatherings threads, in which I called him on the carpet for some of the things he's said which I felt were out of line.

In a nutshell...Ric shared with me that he is currently going through some rather severe personal circumstances at the moment, and is "emotionally at the end of his rope" (his words).  He said that he felt the need to explain himself for "being a bastard lately" (again his words), but has become unraveled to the point of doubting his ability to apologize and explain himself properly.

He said he really needs to step away for a bit to gather himself - not out of any fury at the forums or its members, but because he feels he is doing both himself and the forums more harm than good by not just stepping back immediately.  He's not running off in a huff or suggesting any sort of "goodbye cruel AIDS Meds" kind of deal here.  He's instead saying, "I'm flailing here, folks...and need to step back before I say anything else I'm gonna regret".  I see where he is coming from, and agree with his decision.  I offered to post this on his behalf.

There's more detail to the story, but it's not essential that any of it should be shared.  This is really all that is essential:

He regrets making some of the harsh posts he's made, he respectfully apologizes and wants people to know he has acted as he has due to personal emotional upheaval.  He's stepping back for just a bit to get his things in order and put himself in check.  He loves and respects you all, and will return when he's got things sorted.

Hope this helps to ease some wounds and calm things down a wee bit.

Thanks for reading.

Thanks Tim, many have noticed what is normally out of character and didn't quite know how to respond.  I'm glad you were able to discuss this with Ric -- he has a good friend.  And I hope Ric is able to sort things out and return soon.

Yep.  Agreed.  I am glad we communicated because anyone who has met Ric would know:  This guy lately?  That ain't our Ric.  I knew something had to be going on, and I'm happy he decided to open up and let me in on what's been happening with him.

Although I do not know Ric like most of you do, I can relate to personal problems making things real difficult to function. It's good he had someone like you to talk to Thunter Bunny.....

Thanks for being middle man, Tim.

Having met Ric in Montreal and worked with him on the prelims for AMG'07, I sensed something was off. He's a peaceful, loving soul.

Ric,

Whatever is going on, I hope it's resolved quickly in a way that gives you renewed peace, good health and a speedy return to post.

Ric,

My attitude usually is “Fuck Em”

Never make an excuse for how you feel ...

These are your feelings. emotions...........

Apologize to no one!

When the truth be said, all we really have left is ourselves.

So.................................... Never make an excuse for being yourself.

To me you may be one ugly SOB but to others you might be just this wonderful you (Ric) Personally I feel you’re a sweet man. But Hell what do I know?

Ric,

I can appreciate that sometimes things feel like they are out of control.

My hopes that you can reconnect with yourself and feel like your old self.

I completely agree with what others have said about his posts being out of character.  I've attended two AMG's where Ric was present.  He's a very thoughtful, kind person.  I hope that whatever issues are screwing with him get taken care of soon, 'cause I'll miss reading his posts.  Take care, Ric, and keep in touch.

Dearest Forum Siblings and Friends,

I'm back.  And I would like to thank those of you who have emailed, posted, pm'ed or called me expressing your concern about my well being and I want each of you to know how much your support has helped me over the past weeks.  I also wish that I could have been more active here during this time to be supportive of some of my dear friends who were in much more dire straights during the same time.  (D&H, I love you both.)

I have come back stronger than ever.  I am also more focused.  I have not rolled over on my back and exposed my belly, rather I have puffed up my chest and now know that what I believe is what I believe.  I have no need to spar with anyone.  My opinion is mine, and I accept it as such.  I have no tail feathers to ruffle so if that is your goal, look elsewhere for another turkey.  This turkey's crop is full.

I have a lady friend who has deep southern roots.  She always says, "How nice."  One day I asked her what she meant by that and she told me a story.  It seems when she was growing up in the deep south, she was taught to use this phrase.  A lady would never use the "f" word but was taught to substitute the phrase, "How nice" for "F--- you."  I like the way that sounds.

Yes, I'm back.

Love you all, Ric
