Title: Vitamin B deficiency and sore mouth
Post by: TabooPrincess on March 07, 2012, 02:10:01 pm
My mouth is so sore at the moment likes it on fire, about 3 weeks now.  It's the roof of my mouth and my tongue which are red raw and now my throat has started hurting too.  I'm struggling to eat/drink and certainly finding no enjoyment in it.  My dentist has suggested it's vit b deficiency.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Also, is this hiv specific because my diet is pretty okish at the moment so I can't understand why I would be lacking in vitamins?  I've started taking a multi-vit but heard about some injections??

Could be, could be. Vitamin deficiencies are not uncommon amongst our sort. Speak to your doctor about it,

They do offer vitamin B injections and its the best way to get them into your system  vitamin B12 does not absorb very well in pill form.   Most insurance companies won't pay for the injections.

i've ordered the injections myself, if you aren't afraid of giving yourself a small muscular injection.  you can go to below website and order them from there.  they have just b12 injections or some that have all B vitamins in them

TB, Yes, vitamin deficiency is possible - and so is thrush. Please see your hiv doctor about this as soon as possible.

With your high VL and lowish CD4%, it quite possibly could be thrush (and have you been on any antibiotics lately?). How you describe what's going on in your mouth is very similar to how I would have described it when I've had oral thrush. I don't get white patches so much as red ones and it burns and is sore as hell, particularly when trying to eat or drink.

Good luck, and let us know what your doctor says.
