24 hours of pain .....Ouch.....
« on: September 21, 2006, 08:00:40 am »
Good morning everyone !!,

Seems lately that a lot of people have been having their wisdom teeth pulled, or having something else done with their teeth. Early Wednesday morning I was munching on one of those hard pretzels at work,at about 3:00 in the morning, and sure enough  CRACK !! I busted my bottom left, all the way to the rear, muching tooth off. I had work done on this a while back, but this time, I am not going to play around with it. I am going to have it extracted. I have the appointment set up, at 9:15 this morning( a little over two hours from now. I've been doing a lot of breathing through my nose, as the nerve is exposed, and anything, hot, cold, or even air going past it, makes me feel like I have an ice pic through my jaw, and one through the middle of my forehead !!! OHHH the pain. There is no sign of infection , just NERVE PAIN !!!

I didn't go into work last night, and I already called to inform them that I will not be in tonight. I won't have to go back to work until Sunday night.

OMG ouch ouch OUCH! That happened to me ... a long time ago. I was chewing on GUM of all things and one of my molars just split - so you have my extreme sympathy. It hurts!!! I haven't been able to bring myself to chew gum since then and that's about 25 gum-free years.

Hope the dentist treats you kindly and gives you something yummy for the pain.

Hugs,
Ann

I've had about 6 molars split over the years.  They all had really big fillings in them from when I was a child.  Tortilla chips, gum, and peanut M&M's were the culprits when they finally split.  I now have more crowns in my mouth than anybody I know.  This is the ONLY reason I pay for dental insurance.

Ray,

OUCH! Been there. My heart goes out to you because there is nothing that can make you feel more miserable than a toothache.

I hope all goes (or went) well with the dentist and the pain is subsiding.

Sounds rather unpleasant. Hope your procedure goes ok, Ray!

You will think me masochistic, but I never take freezing when I have dental work done. No crowns yet, but I can see them looming on the horizon.

2006 must be the official year of poz dental work. You think they'd put it on sale, or something.

Well Ray, I have no experience in that (YET).  You will be out of the chair before I even get into mine...  I pray everything goes ok with your extraction (two extractions (yours & mine) are better than one? NOT!  Let us know how you are doing... I have an extra ice pack, pain meds, headwraps, and even an extra set of needlenose if you want to do your own work..

Its going to be just fine... A walk in the park..

Well thank heavens for that David, I thought I was the only freak out there who had a split molar from chewing gum. ::) My dentist certainly thought so and kept insinuating I was lying to him :D

Well.......

Thanks everyone. Just got back from the dentist. Apparently, not only did I break the the one molar all the way to the left  rear bottom, I also managed to crack the one next to it.( which I was not aware of, but showed in X-rays.

He also saw signs of a mild infection already beginning, so, they gave me a precription for penicillin(500)mg. Didn't want to take chances with my already existing  immune system.

I am going to have them both pulled  next Wednesday. At a cost of 150.00 to 250.00 per tooth ( depending on difficulty in extraction.)

The other choice was to have just the one tooth pulled, and root canal ( 679.00) or have a crown at 649.00 Double ouch !!! At this point in my life, I can't see spending that kind of money. I will be content at loosing only those two.

I still have all of my teeth except for one :P so this will be a total of three teeth that will have been removed.

Also have a presciption for Hydrocodone, which was substituted for the Vicoden, that the doctor wrote. I guess my insurance only supplies the Hydrocodone.... Of which I am about to take one right now, and I am going to go lay down for a while. Nighty-night :o Have a great day everyone !

Ray,

Hope you're feeling better soon.  Hydrocodone/acetaminophen is the generic form of Vicodin so you're not getting shafted by any means.  When you wake up, take a couple more buddy.

Just be careful with mixing booze with the pills (at least the acetaminophen part...)

Take care,
John

hey Ray

I had a molar break in half after a dental hygenist 'roughly' cleaned my teeth...thank god it didn't hurt, so I just stuck it out over the weekend.

Hope you get it all taken care of......

Hey Ray, pick youself up some extra strength oral gel too. When it starts to hurt, hit it with oral gel long enough for the Hydrocodone to kick in.  I've been there bud and I feel for you. That will be on dentist visit you won't mind going to.

Hello Everyone,

Thanks all !! I meant to follow up with this thread !! I saw the dentist Wednesday morning at 9:30. After a 15 minute wait, I was in the chair, at 9:45 with the first of four Novocaine (SP) shots given. By 10:00, they started the extraction of the two, left rear molars.

Everything went very well. He was through in 35 minutes. Drove myself to the pharmacy, got another prescription, and then back home at 11:00, took a vicoden, and went to sleep off an on, for the next few hours. Took Wednesday night off from work...

Everything is healing very well, with no problems , and no infection... Only had minor swelling, and it only lasted about 6 hours... I am feeling quite normal again, plus I have plenty of left over Vicaden !! :)
I went back to work Thursday evening.

We just got back from a late lunch, and I wanted a steak so badly, so thats what I ordered !! :P

Thanks Everyone--------Ray
