Travelling; insufficient meds

I take Kaletra, Tenofovir, and lamivudine, and am on a long weekend holiday.  I thought I counted right, but have only enough tenofovir and lamivudine - I'm a days dose short on the Kaletra.

Should I space out my Kaletra to cover the 4 days evenly or just take it normally, then miss one day, and go back on full dose when back home?

id call your dr asap and see if he can hook you up with a pharmacy nearby where you can buy a pill or two

Thanks for the suggestion, but its the weekend and my doctor isn't available on the weekend.  If I thought it was a big deal I'd just go home a day early.

ah shit man,hate to see you cut your trip short. i just figured you posted at 12:45 and it was still friday you might have been able to still get him. you can still call the office and get the emergency number and you can get it filled that way

not trying to be mean or bitchy but using your situation as an example for others, this is why people should always carry extra days meds on trips. A few extra days' worth can avoid miscounting problems, or deal with family asking you to stay longer, or an erupting volcano creating days worth of backed-up airline travel around the world.

By the way, to your situation I do have a thought. studies have shown that with an UD VL, 95% and greater adherence does not create resistance and retains an undetectable viral load. Missing one dose is not the end of the world and isn't neccesarily a reason to shorten a vacation.

Just do a short dose, this is what I would do. It takes a few days for the virus to wake up from no drugs, let alone 2 drugs. An odd missed dose of a PI ain't gonna matter.

yep the carry extra meds is great advice. i have a note on top of my bag to remind me to bring my meds.
i of course fill my pill tray and take that plus i take the bottles of both meds too. just in case i stay longer or whatever.

Thanks Leatherman, Newt, you confirm what I was thinking myself - that either going with a short dose or missing a dose or two would probably be OK considering I'm undetectable. 

In fact I did miss a couple of days dose a couple of months ago due to being in the hospital after a motorbike accident, and there was no ill effect - blood work since confirmed continuing undetectable.

But, yes, Leatherman, you're so right - it makes sense to always add an extra day or two of meds (at least) to your bag..

Yes I did stick to it leatherman and had a great time. 

You guys will laugh, but I have exactly the same problem again this week!  I'm away for the week for work, and I thought I was bringing plenty of meds, but I was mistaken - my Kaletra comes in bottles of 60 pills, not 80 pill bottles, as I thought.  So I'm exactly one day short on the kaletra, though plenty of the other two meds. 

I'm shorting every other day by one pill, so I'll have my lunchtime dose of Kaletra for the last day, thus avoiding a day with no dose at all.  I'll go ahead and take my tenofovir and lamivudine that night, then I'll arrive back by early morning on the next day and I guess take a dose then, so really I'll only be about 8 hours late since I usually take my evening dose around midnight with a snack before bed.

excellent! Missing one dose shouldn't be the reason to ruin or end a vacation or holiday too soon.
