Seroconversion?
« on: April 23, 2014, 11:13:12 pm »
I've read these forums for years, to keep myself educated, to assuage my fears, and to learn to support those that I know that are infected. Now it's my turn to seek some help.

I am pansexual, and am in a polyamorous relationship, with two partners that I have unprotected sex with. Everyone else, I use condoms with. I don't care how well I know the person, if they're not one of these two people, I will not have sex without condoms.

Fast forward a few months, when I'm having sex with someone and I realize that something feels wrong. I reach up and turn on the light, the cismale pulls out and he is uncondomned. I kicked him out of the room, and the next day I went to Planned Parenthood and asked for a test even though I knew that if I had been exposed, I wouldn't have been able to be tested. They actually refused to test me, but the nurse listened to me explain the situation, and told me that she was sure enough that I didn't contract anything that I didn't need to stop having sex with my partners.

A couple of weeks later, I had sex with a really awesome girl, and a couple of days later I developed the worst sore throat. She told me that she was sick also, the next time we hung out. That night, I had a seizure. They couldn't find the cause of the seizure when I had it. A few days ago I started having...it's not diarrhea, just really bad farts that are sometimes wet (sorry for the tmi). Everything else is pretty much the same - I'm tired most of the times anyways, appetite is the same, it's spring time so I'm pretty much a mucous factory.

I tested negative pretty much a year ago, and I've been absurdly staunch about condom use (except with my two primary partners), and this one guy that didn't obey my condoms only rule. He didn't cum inside of me. Just some exposure to precum.

I am bio female.

Based on what you report, you have had multiple risks and the only way to know your status is to test.  You can test 6 weeks past your last episode of unprotected sex and then at 3 months to confirm the results.  To be blunt, you cannot be sure if your regular partners are not engaging in unprotected sex, outside of the relationship, so that presents two more avenues of possible exposure.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to HIV testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start.  As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine HIV tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than HIV.  Some of the other STDs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid HIV infection. It really is that simple!

The one I know for a fact is monogamous with me, the other is poly also. I see what you're saying though. I'm always terrified of getting tested for HIV, but there's only one real way to be sure, right?

Thank you for your advice.

It is always better to know your status, so that if you are poz, you can get treatment.  If you are adult enough to have sex, you have a responsibility to know your status, so you do not unknowingly pass the virus to someone else.

Agreed. I'll go get tested on Saturday. I truly don't think I have HIV - but then again thinking isn't knowing, and if I thought completely that I wasn't at risk, I wouldn't have posted here. It's the guy that said he was going to use a condom that didn't that has my hackles raised - I felt like I was raped because he knew I wouldn't play without a condom and then deceived me. The two people that I do play with unprotected do get tested regularly, and the one that does have sex with other people is as much of a stickler for protection as I am. I will be devastated if this one loser did pass it to me, because I have had sex with my poly partner fairly recently, of course without protection.

I think this is my third post? I'm not really arguing that I need to get tested, I do. I'm just glad that I got told that I should. Thank you all.
