First anniversary off treatment - here's the results
« on: November 20, 2006, 12:34:46 pm »
As is customary I thought I'd share my latest blood results that I received this morning as they seem to indicate that I'm doing something right despite stopping all my treatment just over a year ago.

Just to put everything in context for those who don't know me or don't want to go looking for old posts that fill you in on the details -I've been positive for 15 years, had two spells on treatment - the first in 1999/2000 for four months only; then again from April 2004 to October 2005. I stopped all medication then as I struggled with compliance, when I stopped t-cells were at 474 (33%) and viral load <50.

In the last 13 months off treatment I've not had any illness at all and these have been my results:

December 2005  t-cells 315 (13%) viral load 26,000
January 2006               298 (17%)             21,000
March 2006                 252 (14%)             17,000
June  2006                  222 (15%)             35,400
August 2006               222 (16%)             66,000
November 2006          245 (15%)             13,600

Although it is not statistically significant changes in the last three months, it is encouraging for me (and perhaps others) to know that viral load can go down and t-cells go up without any medication whatsoever.

The only thing that I've added into the equation since August is a teaspoon of manuka honey each night, probably has no bearing whatsoever on my immune system but it doesn't seem to be doing me any harm so I'll keep taking it.

My doctor and I agree that I can stay off treatment for the forseeable future, doesn't want to see me for another 3 months - that suits me just fine!

Best wishes from a very happy Emma
