Please Advise!! Very Worry
« on: October 07, 2006, 08:20:48 pm »
Hello,

I had unprotected sex with a prostitute on May 5th this year. On May 20th I visited the same prostitute and she told me that she just receive her HIV test and it was positive, I saw the test and it said HIV 1-2 (Reactive +).  Since that date my life is hell, I had fever, swollen glands, pain in my muscles, joints, etc.

I took HIV tests on May 25th, July 20th and September 6th (4 months after unprotected sex) and all test were negative or non-reactive.  I have not had any kind of sex since May 5th.

Today is October 7th and I have a cold (101 degrees), I am feeling nausea, pain under my armpits, pain in my muscles and joints, also I feel a burning sensation in my mouth and one canker sore in my lower lip.

Please advise and give me your opinion, Could I still become HIV Positive after a 4 month negative test? or a 4 month test after having unprotected sex with a HIV positive prostitute is conclusive.

Thank you.

Kansas,

You are without doubt hiv negative. A test at THREE months is conclusive and a test at four months is as well. Whatever is going on with you now has nothing to do with hiv.

You need to stop playing roulette with your life and health. You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL STIs together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with a sexually transmitted infection.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Use condoms and avoid hiv infectionl. It really is that simple. Protect your negative hiv status!

Kansas,

You could be sick for reasons other than hiv. If you continue to feel unwell, you need to see your doctor about that. However, you can rest assured that whatever is going on has nothing to do with hiv. You are hiv negative.

Hello Ann,

Thank you for your reply.  I do believe what you are telling me and thanks god I am HIV negative.  I think that what I am feeling is more guilt and nervousness than real symptoms.  You see I waited 4 months to get a conclusive result, to have sex with my wife again.  I started feeling symptoms two weeks after having sex with my wife on/about September 20th, and I started feeling these symptoms because my wife started to feeling sick, I got scare that the test was erroneous.

The symptoms that I feel are pain in my muscles, joints and a burning sensation in my tongue.  I think these are symptoms related to stress and anxiety.  What do you think?

Thank you for your support.

Kansas,

I think that if you're worried about your health, you should go to your doctor and discuss your concerns there.

Whatever is going on with you has nothing to do with hiv, that much I can tell you. You are conclusively hiv negative.

Hello again!!

I have heard that the the hiv virus is fragile because it is very sensitive to changes in its environment.

I heard that transmission and infection is harder to accomplish from a woman to a man because the correct cells that hiv needs to plug into are only found within the urethra (pee hole) on the man's penis and this is a very small area and difficult for the virus to enter into.  Do these mean that during intercourse the virus can only enter into our body through the penis pee hole to get into our urethra?  What about if a male has a small cut in the shaft area? Does having dry mouth during the night (after wake-up) is a symptom of HIV, or could be because sleeping with the mouth open?

Thank you for your support.

Dry mouth is not related to HIV. The usual cause is breathing through your mouth instead of your nose.
If your penis was not cut to the point that is was bleeding profusely, you didn't have a risk. All of this could have been prevented by using a condom.

Kansas,

Dry mouth has nothng to do with hiv infection.

A cut on your penis isn't going to dramatically increase your risk. It is beyond me why you want to know anyway, because you're going to use condoms from now on and it won't matter then if you  have a cut on your penis.

None of this changes the fact that you have reliably tested negative for hiv. You ARE hiv negative. Now use condoms and you'll stay that way.

Thank you Ann, RapidRod, Thank you to all.

I believe that sometimes you may get some difficult cases, but is not because people is difficult, but is most because people is scare and also gets outdated or false information from practitioners or Doctors.

Is kind of frustrating when you go to a Doctor and he/she tells you that a HIV test before 6 months is not conclusive, or induce you to think that you may be HIV +, when they should encourage a patient that the result of the test won't change as you do.

Some Doctors even affirm that they have seen cases of people becoming HIV + after a 12 week test and were not under Chemo, neither received a organ transplant.  Why they do that?  Are they jealous of the information that you know, or they are just incompetents.

Maybe they do that to cover their !!!!!!! you know what, What do you think?

Ann/RapidRod/Andy, this will be my last reply, meaning that I won't ask anymore, neither visit a Doctor because symptoms.  My test on September 6th (4 Months) is more than conclusive, therefore I will continue with my life, I will continue caring for my family and a lesson learned is to have sex without protection only with my wife, meaning that I should not have sex with anybody that is not my wife.

Thank you for your support.
