If I had all that endorsement cash coming in, I'd probably be pretty happy too.

Cash! Who doesn't want more.. though at least he needs to stay alive and healthy to enjoy it. :D

Talk about "HIV celerbrity" endorsement, I wonder what Greg Louganis is doing. There's some news about him here recently (that he's found a new profession as a dog trainer, etc) and even a short interview about him going to the Beijing Olympics.

I went to a drive thru at a Burger King near downtown Dallas to get a soda several months ago. There was a sign on the window that said that Magic Johnson owned that restaurant.
He has his fingers in a lot of different investments I bet.

Good for him...

Just because Magic Johnson has cash doesn't mean his celebrity doesn't give some of us a measure of comfort.

When I converted early, the fact that Majic Johnson looked good, was on TV and didn't let HIV keep him from being a success was also something I drew strength from.

Having his cash may or may not make one happy. But that is not the point of the posting.

Magic has been positive since 91 if what I read was correct. It is always nice to see someone who has been infected for some significant amount of time and appears to be healthy.

My ID doctor has a picture on his desk of him with Magic Johnson. One of my new best friends has been poz since 1989 when he was 19, and he looks and acts healthier than me. He has sex with his partner 3 times a day--he told me that when I asked whether HIV meds will lower sex drive. He is so healthy and optimistic that I don't want to hang out with him any more, because from time to time, I myself went so depressed that I want to stay in a corner and cry.

Thanks. I was hoping to find a bf in that corner with whom I can have sex 3-4 times in a day. Recently, I have no interest in any kind of sex... Even before this diagnosis, I had sex about once/two weeks...

I'm just sitting here shaking my head and thinking surely I am not the only one who thinks sex half a dozen times a day would be boring and likely painful eventually.

Oh, well....bless your heart for clearing all that up for me.  As for me, I draw my strength and get my measure of comfort from seeing my peers "looking good".  Real people, surviving and thriving in the everyday world.  Not from somebody who has the means to readily have any and all medical devices at his disposal, and with enough of both wealth and celebrity to not have to truly worry and hold his breath about the future state of his healthcare.  Bully for Magic Johnson for "not letting HIV prevent him from being a success".  Truth is, however, he already WAS in a successful position before the HIV diagnosis came into the picture, dear.  And now he has used that notoriety to not only be a high profile face for HIV, but to neatly pick up a tidy sum in endorsement money in the process.  He hardly had to struggle from the bottom of the ladder, a ward of ADAP & Ryan White, only to achieve these great heights.  I can commend the man for "coming out" with his status as he did, but his real life day-to-day relationship to this virus and the status of his healthcare bears precious little resemblence to what a growing majority of us know.

Um, o.k.  But having access to the best of everything would certainly make a difference in a lot of people's lives.

THANK YOU, Betty.

If Magic Johnson is an inspiration and gives hope to those with HIV that is wonderful. He has worked for all that he has today. He was a great basketball talent and evidently he has invested his money well. People with a lot of money are able to afford the best possible medical care, no matter what their illness is.

Yes, it's just a shame all the struggles I hear of.  Money does change everything most of the time.
