What names would you choose?
« on: January 03, 2010, 12:10:55 pm »
If you found out tomorrow that you were going to be the parent of a girl and a boy. (trust me not trying to imply anything here about myself).

For a girl I like Simone or Marie.

I *used* to like Bruno for a man... but after seeing the movie "Bruno", for some reason it turned me off a bit (funny how knowing or thinking you know people makes you react to certain names).

For a boy maybe Trevor or Armand.

What names would you choose?

I like Ellie for a girl and I would still choose my youngest son's name which is Luke. If I had to pick another boys name though it would be James

As a 13 year consumer of Glaxo Smith Klein products, I would choose the name "Little Milton".  Little Milton would enter the International Haiku Contest and take FIRST place with his entry:

For a boy I would probably go with Quinter (my paternal grandfather's name) or Ellis (my middle name, paternal grandmother's maiden name).

For a girl I would go for Rose (my paternal grandmother's name).

Obviously I like family names, so whomever I was having a baby with would open other possibilities.

Celexa would be a good name for a girl, and she would make people happy! ;)

I was watching Glee a few weeks ago and there was a girl singer in another glee club named Aphasia. I totally cracked up... my partner didn't get it.

That's nearly as bad as naming your daughter Tragedy.  If my parents named me Tragedy, I think I'd disown them and sue them. I'd certainly use a name of my own choosing ASAP.  Sheesh, talk about saddling a kid with ill-omen!

Motel for a boy -- in honor of a security guard at N.O. Public Library who worked there when I did 30 years ago.

Femalé for a girl -- in solidarity with the young women whose parents mistook the wristband on their newborns as a name assigned by the hospital...

Thank goodness my parents didn't make that choice when I was born --

After having 6 kids and a dog, who was given the girl's name we had chosen for #5 who turned out to be a boy, we've pretty much exhausted our name list.  However, if a miracle did occur:

boy: Gideon (with a crazy long middle name)
girl: Naomi (with a like-wise crazy long middle name)

Even though I told Hubby that his name dies with him, if I did end up expecting #7 and he died of a heart attack when I told him, I suppose I'd be obligated to name a boy after him.  Come to think of it, no I wouldn't.

On the news the other day, there was a lady named Marijuana Pepsi Smith (can't remember her last name).  Her unforgettable quote: "What made my parents look at me in those precious moments after my birth and say, 'She looks just like Marijuana!'?"  Then there were the sister / brother team of Drift and Timber Wood.

Well I wouldn't really name her that.  After losing my son Cody in 2001 I always wanted another son and of course wanted to name him Thomas Jr...  That was actually my choice for Cody, however my ex-wife wanted to name our son and let me name the girls : Rashada and Gabrielle.

If I had another girl I would most likely call her Feldattempt, not Tragedy as earlier mentioned.

Ambiguous names like Bobbi, Danni, Rikki, Drew, Alex... Just in case he/she decides to have a sex change.

Or maybe just Patsy Edina.

Alcoholic names are pretty wacky.  I have worked with girls named Champagne and Tuhqeela, and I promise you that they were not exotic dancers.

Of course, but would they have nicknames like "Snookie" or "The Situation"... I can only imagine what kind of behavior a kid would need to have to earn the nickname "The Situation".

There is, or was, an employee here named Latrina.  I asked her coworker if that was really how it was pronounced and spelled.  She said yes.  Another real and really bad name is Girlvester... wtf who comes up with these names?

My parents tried to use some dignity when naming their children after those who were important in their lives.  My brother: Richard Stanley- After dad's boss Stanley Richardson.  Me: Michael Gene... The boss had a wife named Mickey and there was a cousin named Ruby Jean so technically, I was named after 2 women (and they wondered why I am Gay).

Could have been worse, the boss bought a new car every year for his wife an the previous year model was given to mom.  I could have been 52 Ford Victoria.

We were very poor so extras such as nicknames were rare in our family.  Richard Stanley was known as "Butch" (through high school) while my sister was called "Muff".  Fortunately, we were out of money so I didn't get a nickname   ;D  Have the best day
