Good Morning Foster,

It is rare that I am on-line at this hour, but I'm pleased to be the early bird greeting you on behalf of everyone involved in aidsmeds.com (which you'll also see referred to as AM).

I'm glad you found this site. I've not been a member for long, but have found it to be a great resource for hiv-related information, whether news, research findings, first-hand experiences or friendship. And, as you've no doubt already seen, a variety of topics abounds.

Welcome. May your journey with hiv be easier, more enlightened and, even enjoyable, for having found AM.

Em

Looks like you're viral burden has improved since starting the medicine.  That's good news.

I'm currently on Sustiva and Truvada

Peace,

Hello Foster,

and a warm welcome to the AM club. I've arrived recently here and have learnt a lot, weeped a bit and laughed more often than not. The atmosphere here has started to change my perspective on living with HIV for a more positive one (no pun intended).

I am glad you joined and look forward to your posts.

Yeah, what Mark said!

I feel good on the Maravoric.  When I started on it initially it was Combivir with Maravoric(66% chance) or Sustiva (33%) when I entered the study.  Well 4 weeks into the study I became anemic due to ZDV part of combivir with some help from Depakote, had a bacterial infection from either food or rimming at same time.  Study nurse and my NP told me to stop all HIV meds. Anemia worsened 2 days after stopping, placed into hospital received blood and had to wait a couple weeks to start back on Truvada and Maravoric or Sustiva.

The Maravoric are white round pills and and the sustiva pills are colored and shaped like sustiva but no markings.  I found out I was on the maravoric by accidently biting into the sustiva tablet. No medicine taste, decided to bite into one of the Maravoric pills, definite medicine taste.

Initial test results compared to sustiva (only rough values told to me by the study nurse)  Combivir or Truvada backbone
Maravoric 300 mg once a day (2 pills @ 150mg pill) not quite effective as sustiva with either backbone
Maravoric 300 mg twice a day (4 pills @ 150mg pill) same and maybe a bit better than sustiva with either backbone
Sustiva was the comparison drug (3rd arm)

So pfizer put every one in the once a day maravoric arm of study on 2 times a day. dropping the once a day arm.

Did take me a bit longer to go <50 due to interuption of meds

CD4 counts always been above 700. Went on meds to see if it would help with GI, fatigue problems and the almost 200,000 VL.  I already new that if the VL had stayed lower I  would not have been able to talk study nurse into meds.  My NP says I have more lab results than most people.  Well I entered an early infection and a genetic blood study within 2 months of Diagnosis.   I also suspect part of the high VL and CD4 count to depakote.
Dr Ben Young on thebody.com agreed. I met him at a HIV community forum dinner.

I had almost all acute HIV infection symptoms approx jun 15 - july 7 2004.  I was infected early June 2004.
