Facial and scalp breakouts
« on: August 14, 2007, 09:36:54 pm »
Can anyone help me with this..   I keep getting these tiny itchy patches areas on my scalp, sometimes they scab.  I also get 2 different looking types of blisters/pimples on my face.  One is just clear fluid, which if squeezed fills up immediately again, then when the last of it clears out, leaves a tiny hole and takes a while to close.  Then there is the type that starts with what looks like a white head, if squeezed emits the white part, then swells up temporarily, then goes back down.  I also get red patches occasionally on my beard area, which if rubbed, a clear fluid comes out, then heals almost immediately, a few hours maybe or overnight. I also get some redness underneath my eyes too. Sometimes  dry patches too on nose.  This is the second time I have gotten this, the first when I got infected and about 2 weeks ago.  I am not on meds as yet.

Anyone have any ideas what this is and how to control it? It looks really ba when it breaks out

Thanks

Oh sweetie,
I feel your pain, acne sucks!!!!!
I have been dealing with this for a few months myself, I am a long term survivor and on meds, though My doc thinks its hormonal.

First I would talk it over with your doc, because it's really hard to know exactly what is going on with out looking at it, and a doc would know if it's acne or something else.
Second, what I do to help control it ( though it's better, but not completly gone) is use a benzoly perio cleanser, and tab the spots with clearsil or oxy, (tinted works better, since it covers the red better)

and then there's antibiotics.

Good luck, keep us posted

Hey Cityboy,

My scalp has been itching a lot too!  I am using over the counter dandruff shampoo, the kind with shale oil or whatever it is, and that seems to help.  You might try that.  There are several blemishes under my hair, I can feel them, and they irritate me.  This is a new phenomenon for me.  It sounds similar to what you describe.

Generally, since seroconverting, I have had weird skin.  For example, my favorite chain that I used to wear a lot now leaves a rash when I wear it.  I too get strange blemishes on my face that behave unlike any zit I have had before.  I can't tell what they are... but they come and go.  One or two at a time.  Really annoying.

I guess I think my skin has just become real sensitive.

I read here and elsewhere that dermatitis is a symptom of infection.  That's all I know about it... but if things get worse, I will talk to the doctor.

Before I was diagnosed, I was having all kinds of skin problems that I did not have before.  I tried acne meds up the wazoo and they all only worked for a short time and then my skin would get worse.  After I got diagnosed and on meds, my skin is totally back to normal.  I think it's a symptom of the disease that they don't talk about enough.

First of all the skin is the largest organ on the body... we all have bacteria and one especially staff on our skin at all times... most of the dermatologist I've had to deal with who are suppose to be specialist involved with co-infections of hiv are dim wits in themselves... I had similar problems to what you are stating... itching bumps... strange breakouts... and now a few scares too boot... the docs called it foliiculitus... its a good term when they really do not know... meaning your hair follicules are inflamed.. could be fungul.. could be bacterial...
cleocin-t was all they would perscribe... topical antibiotic...so I had to try many types of herbal... holistic... and convential treatments before my skin started to resume back to being its usual self...  seek a dermatologist... you'll find out how little they know... so many different factors could be causing your skin problems... hit and miss...

City boy,
Mamma had too many glasses of wine last night,
I was trying to type BENZOYL PEROXIDE but shortened it.
you can find this stuff in any drug store, it's the main ingredient in Oxy or Clearsil. But you can buy the generic brand, just read the ingredients label, and make sure the benzoyl peroxide is the main one.

I like the 3 or 5% concentration, since the maximum strengh is too harsh and causes dryness and further irritation....

Good luck,
sorry for my miss typing ::)

I was breaking out a while back and found that when I stopped washing my face with soap it helped.  If you have a Walmart nearby, try to find their "Equate" brand of facial cleanser.  It's in a large blue tube, and it's labeled "Daily Facial Cleanser".  I think it has a bit of salicylic acid (sp?) in it.  Anyway, leaves the face feeling nice and clean, and controls breakouts for me.  Hope this helps.

First and foremost I would see your doctor. The various opinions listed are just that, OPINIONS and not diagnosis. Let us know what your doc thinks.

If you have annoying bumps on your scalp or around your ears where the hairline is, try NIZORAL.  I did and it helped immensely.  Especially since I never had a problem before.

hey dude, yeah it sounds like you got the same thing as me.  I went to a new derm and he gave me this prescription for my scalp, its good and stopped the itching.  I think it is a cortisteriod oil.  It is called fluocinolone acetonide topical solution usp, .01%.  He also gave me this other Rx called Clenia-it is a sulphur based emollient cream, it is also helping a lot.  Maybe u can get your doctor to give you these tooto try.  Just hope they keep working.  Seems like I got another new roommate, dermatatis.   Good luck, hope you feel better.
